How much do you think I should sell my RX8 for?
Winning Blue, Leather, Manual, 3000 kms.
Illuminated gearknob.
Immaculate, immaculate condition.
What do you think guys? How much will I lose?
Reason for selling is, I want to buy a track car. This car is too good for trashing. And it also needs more power, at least 50kw more. I don't want to ruin the warranty because of modifications.
Second option is to keep the car and private import a cheap second hand car from Japan for track days.

In a private sale situation you shouldnt loose more than 5% of your initial outlay on the rx8 .
If you are financialy in a strong position , maybe keep rx8 and as you suggested buy a cheaper import for your track days .
Even if you sell your RX8 , hey theres nothing stopping you buying another one at a later date say 2005 , hopefully by then the car would have had a few more improvements .
cheers

It might be worth trying a search round the web. There are several Australian sites which give car valuations. You'll see a big variation though.
For instance you'll see dealers asking up to $64k and $65k for 2nd hand leather packs. But it's pretty safe to ignore those prices, which are greatly inflated to allow for ambitious trade in prices, or perhaps try and catch someone too desparate to wait for one to arrive from Japan.
Auto Web for sale
The straight valuation sites give a much less rosy picture.
Here's some figures from the Redbook site (www.redbook.com.au):
2003 MAZDA RX8
Coupe plus Leather Trim 4dr Man 6sp 1.3i (July onwards)
trade in price guide* $47,100 - $52,500
national average price - private sale* $51,500 - $58,000
price when new (RRP) $62,610
Remember that you won't get back the Stamp duty, dealer cost etc, as the new buyer will have to pay stamp duty again.
The money you'd lose by selling it now (unless you're a very good salesperson) might go a fair way towards offsetting the costs of any money you might lose specifically because you'd blown the warranty?? Obviously, any car you take on the track has the chance of costing you a fair chunk of dough to fix and run, so it sort of boils down to "how much do I really want to spend on racing?".
Good luck either way. I've been wondering whether to buy an additional 'thrashable' backup myself. But I'm going to take the Rx8 to some low level autokhana type stuff and get a feel for the costs/dangers/risks first.
No way I'd sell the RX8 though...

Yo're better off getting a dedicated track car. Ever thought what you'll do if your daily driver has an accident on the track. At least if you tow a car up there you can tow it back and still drive monday. Believe me, I've been in above scenario, it's not worth the risk. Furthermore, any (serious) performance mods to a road car only tend to devalue it.

Whilst I'm not currently competing in mototorsport, I have competed across a wide range from open wheel and sedan on the track , to ralllies and motorkhanas too.
It is NOT viable to have a road car that delivers the goods on the track. at the most basic level, on the track you dont want a CD, back seats, sound proofing, air bags etc etc etc . They weigh heaps and slow the car. Also, things like exhaust noise, roll cages, seats etc make the competition car a target for the police when on the road.
There is also factors like suspension camber (high negative settings are optimal on the track and a problem on the road and as mentioned above, its a pain in the butt when the car needs repair and you dont have another set of wheels remembering ther repair may be a performance enhancement not accident or breakage.
In short ... get a second track car and preferable a car trailer too.

Thanx guys, I am thinking of club racing, open days and some mountain twisties. Or anything else, as long as not drag racing and street racing. Well, does RNP run can be considered as street racing? :p
I don't think I can part with my RX8 yet, I think second hand private import is the way to go. RX7(FD3S or even FC3S) or R32 GTR will be nice, as long as I can street register the car.
