In answer to your original question. At current rate. I would be surprised if you didn't make 300,000km before the engine gave up.

Here are some DMRH stats

Highest milage list

JC Cosmo - 20B-REW = 190,000km

Car imported at 60,000km so previous history unknown. Aussie driving all freeway with 10k km oil changes.

FD RX-7 - 13B-REW = 140,000km

Original Aussie delivered series-6 that got regular oil changes & plenty of freeway driving. Common water seal issue finally crept in forcing a rebuild.

FC RX-7 - 13B-TII = 240,000km

Lady owner until 120,000km then respectful rotorhead until 240,000km mark. Simply failed to start one day as it was totally worn out.

FC RX-7 - 13B-EGI = 320,000km

Sales rep driving this atmo series-4 ran up the F3 every day & changed oil every 10k km. Engine was still going at 320,000km when he was talked into a rebuild after complaining about "lost torque"......

SA RX-7 - 12A-carby = 480,000km

Sales rep runing up & down the coast every day, Oil changes every 10k km & it just kept going & going & going. Finally it failed to start one day. Tear down of engine showed nothing was re-useable as it was all totally worn out.

FE RX-8 - 13B-MSP = 190,000

RX844. You are the highest milage car with 13B-MSP power i know of. In atmo form (meaning less stress) & regular oil changes. Your engine should be good for over 300,000km

Thanks for that DMRH.

So we should probably see 300 eh? That makes me feel a lot happier about driving my car around as much as I do.

The examples given are highest milage cars I have known personally over the years.

There will be examples of more & less km depending on vehicle abuse & servicing that I am not aware of.

Spare a thought for Skyline GT-R owners. Their RB-26 tt engines are usually only good for 60k-80k km before going "bang".

In power to capacity terms, the 13B-MSP is far more reliable than any piston engine around

Think of it this way.

The 13B-MSP is rated at 176kw for 1308cc capacity.

Thats 0.134kw per cc

Look at a BMW 325i for example.

The 6-Cyl multi valve is rated at 160kw for 2497cc capacity (UK spec)

Thats 0.064kw per cc (or less than half the power of the rotary for nearly twice the capacity)

Now, say BMW offered the same 2.5lt in N/A form with rotary engine power/capacity.

0.134kw x 2497cc = 334kw (or one kick **** 6-Cyl atmo engine)

Anyone ever driven a peaky, highly strung 6-Cyl screamer engine with extreme power/capacity ratio's........???

Plenty of fun on the track. Damn near undriveable on the street, too peaky, too noisey, too thirsty & would be lucky to do 5,000km before going "bang".

Just ask Paul Morris how many KM his highly strung diet Coke BMW 6-Cyl "Super tourer" would do brefore requireing a $20,000 engine re-build..........lol

For what we get from our rotary engines, we are in a class of our own that no "affordable" & "streetable" piston powered counterpart is capable of matching.

So anything near 300,000km is nothing short of extraodinary.
