Were you tailgating? How did you manage to rear-end somebody? The car stops on a dime I'm surprised you didn't out-break the commodore. My biggest fear is getting rear-ended myself given the car stops so quickly.

If it's just a scratch on the plastic bumper just take it do a decent shop and get them to paint it.

better off touching it up at a good crash shop, new panel may not fit as good.

Should be plenty of Bumper Repair joints.. Saves you heaps of cash instead of going to a panel beater to do the same thing for double the price.

Sorry to hear about the crash Marky77. Shame you missed out on Sunday's cruise.

Here's hoping it gets fixed okay.

Seems like the piston in your avatar finally got its own back huh?

revolver! yeah i really wanted to come to the cruise! BUT i had a guest over from Brazil!
I am taking my car to a panel beater? I am doing through insurance! my work actually pays for my insurance and i dont have to pay an excess?

Capncrunch- i wasnt tailgating the guy..we where both in a left lane that only turns left and i think he was trying to go straight! the traffic starts moving and he drives forward trying to get into the right lane! AND he doesnt make it! SO he hits the breaks! and i hit him!!!

DO you think they will be able to match the paint???

ehhhhh........

How do you generate that conclusion. It only does not fit if everything next to it has been made out of line by the accident.

I will replace it if it is a work expense. I will get work to pay for the MazdaSpeed replica while I get some dude in a mobile van to touch up the one that has been scratched. ... ^_^"

Ahh, the old giveway rear-ender eh? Like when you're behind someone at a giveway sign and you're both looking right. There's a break in the traffic and you look forward and see the guy in front of you taking off, you look right again and start to go forward and bang! He's decided not to go after all, even though you probably could have driven a horse and cart through the gap in time...

I'm actually picking my car up from the panel shop today (see my thread) so I'm hoping they've done a good job. They specialise in high-end cars (BMW's etc) and the quote was a fair bit dearer than the other quote and they've taken a week to do it so they damn well better have done a good job. Second on my list of concerns when I have to leave my car somewhere is that nobody drives it. I'm going to be really upset if they've put more than a k or two on the car...

I might start a thread on recommended panel beaters when I get back

I went to the insurance recommended repairer and told him that I didn’t want the front bar repaired I wanted it replaced! AND he said no problem! He sent his quote to the insurance company and they approved it! NOW I just hope that they get the paint right?? So it doesn’t look to different?

FINGERS crossed that it all works out!!

ON a side note i got my Mazda welcome pack recently? has anyone in sydney done the drivers course? if so how was it?

I'm booked in for the Driving course on the 5th of July. Promises to be a lot of fun.

I'm lucky I'm with AAMI????,
Speaking of off the road RX8's mines been off for near 2 weeks now.. As some *** hole reversed on a right angle into the rear left hand side of my 8 in a car park... took it to aami for fixing...and the aami smash repairer had a 250km+ joy ride/drive in it and shattered my MS front end !! I'm still waiting on parts to fly in...
I am shattered, I missed the sydney drive day,.... the works..

Whaaat! I'd suggest you see a solicitor. I reckon you'd have a good case to take them to the cleaners. I'd suggest this is the sort of behaviour the media would love to hear about. How did they justify driving 250k+ in your car??

Yeah but Timbo, what can he recover that AAMI haven't already offered to pick up??

They are obviously covering the cost of all repairs to the car. You could also make a good argument for avoiding any excess and getting them to pay for a hire car for the extra time the car is off the road but anything beyond that is no go. You can't get dough for the emotional upset of missing a drive day or stuff like that.

I guess you might also guilt them into picking up next year's premium for you as a sweetener but I doubt it. Insurance companies couldn't give a rats if they lose the odd customer with a sports car. They make most of their money off middle aged camry drivers who never have accidents.

Still, far be it from me to deprive some half-starved, ink-stained scrivener of a bit of work. :p Maybe some funnel web local attorney can have a go at them for you.

I would have though a nasty letter, followed by the threat of some nasty publicity....

Anyway, name the smash repairer...name them! (so at least we know)

Oh sure, a nasty letter can work wonders - I recently did one for the skipper of the boat I race on and the reply came with a cheque!! :D

However, a lawyer cannot issue threats (well, the ethical ones don't), especially about non-legal avenues such as running to the media. That kind of stuff is a matter for the client.

Whatever, I agree with your last point - name the bastards so we can all avoid them.

i agree! i would definatly take the matter MUCH MUCH further! WHAT they did is not acceptable! I WOULD refuse to have my car repaired at that panel beater! AND give AAMI as much grief as possible! I WOULD even go as far as making a claim to the ombudsman or something!!!

I believe that thats actually illegal. If they have started to enter the intersection and stop, their fault. They only have to be past the stop/give way sign and they have entered the intersection. I got off a (very light) rear ender because of this.

Hmm interesting...

Well, I got my car back the other day and I'd like to say that the guys did a great job. Lombardi Brothers in Bentley (Perth). And the most pleasing thing was that there was they put less than 1km on the clock after having it for a week. They take a digital photo (with date) of the taco on the day they get it and the day you pick it up, apparently. Car was immaculate inside/out on collection.

Maybe we should start a thread on recommended panel beaters in Aus?
