AU Gt = r3?

Hi All

I have had my new 2009 RX8 GT for 2 weeks and I am just thrilled with its balance and feel. I took a long drive through the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne and was blown away by its total composure while carving around tight bends at speeds that would tip my other car (Lexus LX470) on its roof. The fact that I there are enough seats to ferry kids around from time to time is a big bonus.

One thing puzzles me ... is the Australian 2009 RX8 GT essentially the same spec as the R3 in the USA / UK?

Thanks
ELRX8

Does yours have 19" wheels and Recaro race-style seats? Upgraded Bilstein suspension and the aforementioned differentiate the R3 in the US.

R3 is just a package level. if your package is GT, then it's not an R3.

Yes, his GT does. The Aussie GT is essentially the same spec as the US R3 from what I can tell...although I think the yanks still get an extra oil cooler...

I thought the new series also had an extra oil cooler regardless of trim.

Yes the Aussie "GT" has Bilstein shocks, 19" wheels, rear spoiler, Recaro seats, etc. From what I can see this looks identical to the key R3 specs, so I surmise that they are essentially the same car but for some reason it has been branded differently here in Australia. Marketing sometimes moves in mysterious ways.

I don't think the Aussie cars get the second oil cooler.

Anyone know for sure?

I'm glad you're happy with it

Now, have you registered for Nationals yet? It's at Wakefield, and a few of us will be driving up there on Friday 7th August. If not for the track day, then join us for the company.

Hi Black-8

Sorry for slow response - have not check back for a few days. A drive up to NSW for a track day sounds like a blast, but I havea bunch of things on that I can't move at short notice. Now that I know about it I'd be keen to join the next one. Is it on at the same time and venue every year?

Cheers

Not sure what will happen next year. Some has hinted that this year may be the last due to lack of interest from owners of RX-8, so one can only hope for the best

It just needs someone to step up and take it on...some of the old timers are getting battle fatigue...
