Great review in today's "The Australian"!

An excellent review for the RX-8 has been published in today's "The Australian". It precedes the opening of the Sydney Motor Show. Some fancy footwork by Mazda Australia!

In the print edition, they measure the 8 up against the 350z, Alfa GTV 3.2 and Honda S2000, with the 8 and z ranked equal at 4.5 stars. Loved the comment on the S2000 -- "…21st century equivalent of a comb-over". Harsh, but very funny:D

Nice and positive but technically inaccurate. My favourite is:

"Being a free-spinning rotary there's little engine braking to speak of, so changing down through the six-speed gearbox to slow the car is academic. "

Obviously the author has never accidentally dropped it into second gear a little too early (like I did the first day I drove mine) and almost stood it on its nose and caused the DSC to kick in.

Great rave about the car... also liked the article on the Melbourne Guy 64 who bought one...

I thought that the comment about engine braking was inaccurate too. In fact I find I have to use a gear higher than in my old ride if I don't want to be thrown through the windscreen. I thought that engine compression was a significant factor in engine braking.

I think some of it could be the fact that just lifting off the throttle in some cars gives you a solid jerk (Hi, I'm a solid jerk!!! :D), where lift of in gear in the 8 is so very smoothe - almost electric motor like!

There are two obvious reasons why they used Lightning Yellow for the review:

1. They have not seen Winning Blue RX8 yet.

2. They have seen Winning Blue, they want one badly for the photo session, but it was not available!!

Good point. My other car doesn't need a brake in first gear, I can control speed using the accelerator and compression.

Well we all know what colour the car is marketed in... and why would Mazda pick anything but the best colour for its brochures? :D :D :D

Actually I like all the colours... and I'm glad everyone thinks their own is the best.. would hate for you to regret your colour selection.

Got my sister and brother-in-law staying with us this weekend. Took the BIL for a spin and parked in the bright sunshine - he walked away and looked back at the car, his jaw dropped and the only words that came out were "look at it".

When the full sun hits a highly polished Vel. red 8 it glows like it's 5000 degrees.

You just can't beat that - sorry guys, there's no contest :D

I believe that the sydney motor show has 2 rx8 on show one in titanium and the one on the rotating display is none other than the lightining YELLOW , even MAZDA AUSTRALIA has realized that the YELLOW rx8 captures the true spirit of the rx8 BEST .

IMO MAZDA should have used the yellow as its trophy colour instead of the red , and obviously a lot of people agree as YELLOW has been featured in both WHEELS MAGAZINE AND MOTOR MAGAZINES , articles in the australian and now at the SYDNEY motor show .

LIGHTINING YELLOW RX8 ROCKS

No reds ones available for the show ... they had a spare yellow one floating about, so they sent it to the motor show :D

anyway, everyone knows red cars go faster!

According to Oxford dictionary,

self-denial noun deliberately going without the things one would like to have.

No, not pink. Never pink.

I've had just about every colour there is over the years - but not pink. In fact, not orange either!

RX-8s at the Sydney Motor show

Greetings All,

I was at the Motor Show last Saturday and yes, there were 2 rx-8s on display - the one out the front that you see first was Winning Blue - unlocked and had people crawling in and out of it ! The other that was around the back was Yellow. I didn;t see ano others but they could have been covered in people it was that packed.

I was impressed by the spoiler on the blue one as mine doesn't have one - yet !

And they had only yellow model cars for sale - I'm sure I am not the only one eagerly awaiting a large scale (opening door type) blue model RX-8.
