Go England!!

Just wanted to say thanks for such a fantastic world cup final.

Was truly absorbing (& stressful!!) but I think it was a fair result.

You guys win loads of things so it's only fair us whinging pomms get a look in from time to time.

ARISE SIR JONNY :D

It was one of THE great games of rugby. England deserve the win, especially considering the amount of possession you had. But I reckon Australia's efforts despite that were fantastic.

Yep, Jonny for an OBE at least! Wonder if he can play soccer?

Absolutely fantastic final!

Despite being a rabid Australian fan, it seems fitting that England won after being so good leading up to the competition.

But if the Wallabies had to lose, you couldn't have written a better script for an amazing game.

Well done both teams - all can be proud of the job done.

Grrrrr... all I can say is there's no way Rogers was held long enough to get pinged for getting up after the tackle... Oh well, I'm sure the boys in the Aussie Customs service will take care of Mr Wilkinson *on with the rubber glove... think happy thoughts Johnny* DD

Seriously, congrats, I guess it's about time the English won something :D

I'm watching it for the third time right now. Yes Jonny is great, but just watch how the rest of the team clear the field for him ... the guys clearing the field for him on that last drop one the game. To be able to coordinate a play like that after 99 minutes of the most intense rugby I've ever seen was mind blowing!!!

I'm proud England won, but glad it was a close run thing, the Wallabies certainly didn't go down without out a fight.

I hope you assuies aren't too upset by the time I'm visiting the great down under again in April.

Drinks all round I say.

Cheers

It was a great match, and a great atmosphere in the pub where I was watching it.

I still don't like the tactics of England - I think it is bad for the game. William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and RAN with it. He didn't pass it to someone to kick a drop goal. If I want to watch kicking I will watch Australian Rules Football or the English Premier League.

If the rules aren't changed (maybe take a drop goal to 2 points, or raise a try to 7 + 3), the I can see the world cup next time round. Australia will still have its forward pack and wingers, but the rest of the team will be AFL superstars specialising in drop goals. I don't know if the UK people have seen too much AFL, but they can kick goals under pressure from any point on the ground, not just the set positions that Wilkinson practises from.

/* back on topic */

On the way home from the pub last night I was chased down by a guy in a grey leather pack number, he was so happy to see us, since (somehow) he has had his car for 6 weeks and hadn't yet seen another RX8 on the road.

Congratulations to the Red Rose. I hear it was a fantastic game, but unfortunately we have to wait until Tuesday evening before it appears on Fox Sports World over here. Even the third place playoff doesn't appear until Monday evening.

They carry the Aussie Rules grand final live, but not the Rugby World Championship final. Go figure.

It's so very refreshing to hear praise for both teams from either side of the world.

It just reinforces the gulf between the way rugby & football is both played & supported.

Just a quick note to dbb:

if the drop goal was only worth 1 point we still would have won.

I can remeber not so long ago getting stiffed by South Africa by a barrage of drop goals. We lost, got on with it & eventual managed to win a World Cup!
