Fun in Dandenongs!

OK main reason for this thread was to throw some Pic down about the day we had today.

You will of course notice an evil 350Z in some of the pics. This is a mate of mine's and made the day far more fun.

This car (the 8) absolutely rocks!!! We left at around 0600 this morning and basically drove until midday. The feel and drive of this car is absolutely amazing. The best thing is that we were able to swap cars to compare:

The Z is definitely a more "go-cart" type of car. The main crit my mate has for the 8 was that the DSC cut in during understeer before the Z would of done. Other than that he loved it, his plusses: Ride is outstanding, engine is and sounds fantastic, beautiful vehilce. He also said he was glad this wasn't out when he bought the Z as it would have made the choice very difficult!

My eval: stoked wih the 8, had a ball in the Z (have driven my mates a couple of times) but the 8 shows a combination of power, handling, ride comfort, braking, response, that sets it apart. (this in addition to looks etc)

Because I was wearing my ****** clothes (as seen on pics) of mazda gear) my mate also went to nissan to do the same thing. As soon as I stopped Nissan, Holden etc all came over to check out the car. Unfortunatly I think I swapped one of the guys to Mazda.

Basically my mate and my synopsis to this guy (and the Nissan Lads) was that once you drive both cars there is no comparison in the vehilces. Depending on your intentions you will choose your vehicle immediately.

My last comment; this car is far better than we tested on the track during the car day: The handling over real roads needs to be tried to be believed. I could not stop anwwhere todaty without one thousand questions (and that was with the Z next no me!)

Those pics make me homesick - I love the roads in and around the Dandenongs.

Hi guys, SImon,

I hate to be misquoted. As the owner of the 350Z, I am not here to "make war" or creat conflict, but I dont want to be found technically wrong either. So, Simon and I had a great day in the dandes, and it didnt matter which car we were in, we just kept smiling. Simon has most of what I said correct, except for my one "criticism". I would actually prefer to call it "difference". It was not understeer that I noticed was different, it was mid corner grip. By no means was it bad, I just noticed the computer kicked in sooner than it did in the Zed. The car still went exactly where I pointed it, just the computer kicked in earlier.

Both cars are outstanding. The Zed is like a go-kart, hard, firm, point and shoot. No compromise. The RX-8 has a much better ride for only a slight difference in the "point and shoot" category. The steering is lighter in the RX-8, and it comes down to personnel choice. Wish we could have used the rpm between 6 and 9500....but there is always next time.

The side by side at Fern Tree Gulley Nissan was definitely interesting. The sales staff from both Nissan and Holden came to look at both cars, but the RX-8 was definitely the star. To be expected given the Zed is now 4 months old. And yes, I think the nissan sales guy might be pissed at SImon...he definitely lost a sale there to some guy who got all his dreams at once. Both cars in silver, side by side. As Simon said, and reinforcing all the reviews, both cars are delightfully different, you will know which one is for you, and which one is not. Both SImon and I drove each others car, and both knew we had made the right decision....with the exact same end result...BIG SMILES all round! Anyone for the dandes this weekend?
