Yep, when you take into account those wheels and tyres are worth >$3,500 (and they're hard to scratch )

Anyone who was lurking around looking for a good used 8, now's your chance

The Polo GTI comes in five colours: Flash Red, fridge, Galmet metal primer, You'd have to be Crazy Black and Dirt Attract Blue, so the choice is easy

I have, however, declared war on cows and ensured accommodation for tall people

Please don't quote me from previous posts...I know what I said, but that doesn't mean I believe it

I still can't believe that you would replace a RX-8 with a Polo... I have seen the damn things hop two feet sideways when a semi passes and I struggle to believe that an ECU update boosts the power to 150Kw - is the rest of the system able to cope with this?? Are you sure tha you will fit into this thing??

Apart from the ugly front, I liked the 3.2 V6 Passat wagon - lots of extras for a change.. AWD DSG DSC ABS and every other acrynom that you can find in a modern car.. Strangely Sat nav is available at an almost affordable price and if the brochure is correct, the fuel economy blitzes the Alfa 159..

Most of all I can't believe that you are giving away the rotary watch with the car...

zuppy, it's only a car....it's only a car. And the watch, while nice, is not something I really wear. They'll both have a wonderful home with an enthusiast who's been waiting around for a good 8 to appear on the 2nd hand market, at a good price

Sigh.. I know you are right, but it has been fun.. We might poke our noses into trickedPoloClub.com.au every now and again to see how you are travelling...

For some reason we all like to be part of a tribe and this is the first car that I have ever owned that has motivated an intorvert like me to get out, meet people, organise (small number of) people for Nats and (gasp ) get out and have fun on a race track..

Farewel Timbo it was nice to met you and thanks for the experience..

I'm almoast at a loss for words, Timbo: thought you'd be amongst the stayers.
How do I find the Polo forum? bound to be scintillating!
A friend in Sydney is currently swapping his Audi s6 for a Golf gti diesel, going to wait about 18 months until he can pick up the new RS4 2nd hand for 60c in the dollar.

Must come clean, as my lease approaches maturity in November I have been looking around.
Daughters want a white rx8, missus wants an auotomatic, I want someting less problematic than the 8 has been with dirty country fuel. And I feel like a change.

Actually going to Port Macquarie tomorrow to take a Lexus is250 6speed sequential for a good test drive. Looked up their forum the other day, shouldn't have bothered. About as engaging as you would expect from Lexus drivers. A shame the is350 is not coming here, seems to be a real performer.

So, Timbo, old mate, old buddy, old pal <places conspiratorial arm around his shoulders> sounds to me like you're gonna have some spare cash to spend.

Hmm, I wonder what you could spend it on...

Hey, just because I change veeehickells doesn't mean we can't keep in touch. Tribalism can go too far.

There's no question the 8 is a great car, but it should not be the sole reason for discussion. In fact, by the looks of both forums recently, anyone who's had a car for 2+ years is just about posted out, at least in respect of the car.

If you are all good, I promise to come back and tell you all about the Polo -- esp the fuel economy

In the meantime, there's a fine, coddled 8 seeking a nice home

Yes, an interesting read. How you sensibly compare a Polo, Golf, 130i, S4, Cayman and Aston Martin is beyond me. Bang for buck might be a better approach

Agreed.

Mind you, it was interesting that the AM did the Cayman on the tight north circuit at OP.

And to those of you who haven't heard the AM above 4K - do yourself a favour. Aural sex.
