Front passenger Airbag and deactivation?
Front passenger Airbag and deactivation?
Hi all,
I often have my little nieces and nephews in the car, and have to sit them in the back. I have found out that the UK model RX-8 comes with a disable switch (goes under the second part of the centre console).
Anyone have one in Oz? I'm looking at getting one installed if I can soon.

I don't believe you can get a deactivation switch installed since ADRs dictate they must be functional at all times.
I know that the Lamaborghini Murcielago is sold in Australia equipped with one of these switches, but whether it is functional is another question.

Yep, guys had a Lambo in the workshop recently and it has the key activated switch. But many other European cars do. I'm going to investigate this further - surely it is something you are allowed to do.
Mazda does it for Europe, they should do it for Oz and everywhere else as well.

No as I understand it... it is not a function in Australia since less than 10 year old are not allowed in the front seat (right?!). They should be placed in a booster seat at the back until tall enough.
That is how I understand Australian law.
