The fastest vehicle on the road...
Those of us who have red cars are tired of all the jokes about red being fastest. The truth is that in practical terms we are blown into the weeds by other vehicles on the roads. Here in no particular order is my list of very hot vehicles. You'll note I've left out WRX's because they're usually on the road only five minutes before they're stolen and in a container to Hezbollah.
- Low loaders carrying earth moving equipment. Because KE = 0.5*mv^2, they don't (can't) stop at red lights
- Star Express courier trucks
- Tradesmen's Toyota utes - it's the boss', so who cares. A dog in the back can add 20kph to the speed.
- Very large 4WD's. The larger, the faster.
Feel free to add to the list.

I feel you guys are missing the two fastest cars on the road:
- All company vehicles
- Hire Cars
These two cars are capable of coping a pounding and keep running. The sedans can cover any terain and are ideal for soft sand beach driving.
I can personally vouch that a manual hire car can bounce off the rev limiter in 2nd gear on the highway on the way to the airport for almost 15 minutes before the it overheats. (That will teach the company to keep me waiting to pick it up)

All worthy contenders but I'm still backing my Aussie Post van driven by a school leaver of below average intelligence who is determined to get to the TAB as soon as his delivery is done.

Yes I know , with an officer that is. Most of the booking is because of running red lights, not wearing helmets and ridiculous behaviour. I have not heard anyone of my group score a speeding fine. If there is one, the whole cycling community will know. I am sure .
Not with a speed camera. There is no method to id me. In fact, I doubt I trigger the camera at all sometimes. At Johnston street, I had no choice but going 45kmh (in a 40kmh), it is downhill and I have a bus lane to myself. Sometimes, I hate the car next to me getting so fast and slow down before the fixed camera. So I speed up at the right point hoping I got him and me on the photo
I WILL love to show off my speeding ticket, if I had one on my bicycle.

I went on the Great Victorian Bike Ride in 1989 and there was a climb up some hill and back down the other side...The bottom of the hill on the other side happened to be a small town and the police sat there all day booking riders for doing > 60 in the marked 60 zone. I vaguely recal some guy saying he got done for 70 odd in the 60 zone.

Taka, all three incidents occurred with mobile hand-held radar guns - they were stopped and booked on the spot. One guy got chased by the highway patrolman concerned and was also threatened with a defect notice(!!).
And yes, they all bore their tickets as badges of honour at the next race meeting, particularly the guy who got done for 90km/h in a 60 zone (yes, it was downhill and he was an extremely strong and fearless rider).

Yes I can say from recent experience that a little Hyundai Getz can hit it's limiter in 1st 2nd and 3rd with 3 passengers after leaving a toll booth. We dragged off a Datsun 120B. Fantastic fun. Also quite quick on the sniff of an oily rag!!

Quick...I'll show ya quick
What about the cement mixer driver stuck in traffic, albeit in Adelaide...using median strip as his own lane.....the result...many knocked over little trees and some bollards...he was in a huge hurry!!!
But my money goes on the Australia Post van...man those things are quick!
