Wink family car my ****!

anyone else had kids in the back? they just don't fit!
adults fit better due to the extra leg length.

I had my two nephew's in the back last weekend for a short trip and if I ever have kids I'll seriously consider selling the 8
the kids where 7 and 2. the 7 year old could get in and do up his belt but the seat was too deap and he couldn't bend his legs.
I ended up with feet marks all over the backs of my seats.

The todler had a booster seat and it had all sorts of problems!
1) with a booster seat buckling the seat belt is next to impossible as it is buried deep between the booster seat and the transmission tunnel.
2) the top mount of the lap sash is to far inboard and would have cut into the kids neck if it wasn't for the side strap on the seat which held it down.
3) the belt kept locking while trying to strech the belt to do it up.
4) you realy bugger your back fitting to get the belt done up!

my sugestion to all parents is to choose your kids booster seat with alot of care!

hope this helps prospective owners.

My SS got feet marks on the back of the leather seats anyway.

My kids (10 & 6) got used to it. Really only for special occasions, not everyday. They don't like the lack of visibility.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Really have to find a booster seat that locks in the rear buckle at the angle of the seat. There are some selling in UK. I don't understand why it is not available in Australia.

My kid is -4 months at present. The baby capsule is fitting ok but need some support at the base as the seat cave in like a bowl.

Time for a premature search... thanks rotaryenvy for it. Does it put you off having kids then? :D

I always take my 5 year old's shoes off before putting him into the back seat of the RX-8.

He likes to fold his legs anyway, so it isn't a problem.

Talking

As a proud father of 3 boys i dont have any problems with the rear seats , the youngest son who is seven cannot see out of the rear and occassionally gets his foot on the rear seats ,well big deal the back seat gets a bit of dirt on it .duh .

I believe the suicide doors do the job rather well in concealing themselves and giving the RX8 its nice lines as opposed to normal doors .

Porsche is considering doing a four door 911 style car possible with suicide style doors similar to the RX8 .

cheers

my kids complain about not being able to see much due to the small windows at the back and the high front seats.

Yeah, thats the first comment I got from my kids when I bought Lustre's car home on the demo drive...."Can't see, Dad". Not a problem now though, the 10yo reads a book, the 8yo sleeps on trips over 100km.....

The problem for the Baby or Booster seat is to buy a ISOFIX equipped ones. There are two hooks at the angle of the seat that allow the seat to click on. very secure. None of the seat belt non-sense. At least don't need to tie down the seat with the seat belt.

Problem for me is they don't have one for rear facing (<9 months). There are not many blend to choose from either. I found Batrix, which is sold at Babyco (so they said in the web). Only one model with a stupid deep blue colour.

The Mazda Japan one looks better

My kids have sat in the back of one at Brisbane Car Show.

Daughter (9) commented on lack of vision and immediately said can we have DVD/Playstation in back!

Anyone heard of any DVD/console mods done to RX-8's.

My 5 and 8 year old boys LOVE it - they reckon its like sitting in an airplane. And the transmission tunnel does a really nice job of keeping the warring factions seperate!
Although the freestyle doors are a hell of a lot easier than a 2 door car, I do notice when the 8 is parked in a tightish car spot there's a fair bit of contortion involved in getting the kids out between they partially open front and rear doors. That's a small price to pay for driving a genuinely thrilling family SPORTS car though...

sounds like everyone bought this car beacuse they could convince themselves it was a 4 door LOL

it's handy but I wish it was 2 door. if only they made the rx7 a couple of inches bigger.

I wouldn't even have looked sideways at it, if it wasn't a four door......

Same for me.

Four Doors & Four Seats are a prerequisite or the vehicle won't be passed as practical and finance approved.

The fact that the 8 is just such a sweet drive and great car is more than just the icing and cherry on the cake, but neither would matter if I couldn't fit wife + 2 kids inside.

I can't wait until I have enough saved to get mine.
