Factory wheels and tyres for sale - as new!
Hi folks. I bought a new RX8 a year ago and stuck sexy new wheels and tyres on it on day two! I'm not sure WHY I kept the factory gear in the garage - I probably thought i might use them for a driver training day or something? I dunno. Anyway, they are taking up space and probably better served as cash in my pocket... so on the market they go.
I believe $1300 is a pretty typical price form what I've seen/read. So...anyone keen? As mentioned they are TOTALLY as new. I doubt I had them on the road for 50klms.

Hey lads. I'm looking to sell the full set - wheels and tyres together. As mentioned...they are straight from the showroom in pristine condition.
I'm open to offers, but will probably see how 'the market' reacts for a few days yet on price before dropping much.

This is going to sound weird, but I'm not sure. They are in storage in my dad's garage here in Brissie. I will check on the weekend. I think the car came stock with Michelins.

I want to ask what is the difference between storing a set of tyre in the ideal place (cool, non-sun expose area) compare with the tyre on the car, like the demo car sitting in the showroom or open space? I imagine bying a demo now require a change of tyre then...
I thought if stored properly, the tyres have 3-4 years of grip life. I am talking semis here though.
Let you know one thing that encourages me to run old tyres.... Silas did a PB at Winton on my 3 year old only half worn B'stone which I abused them and did not look after them. He said it still grip like normally. WTF!

Softer and grippier tires are supposed to be better. As tires go through several heat cycles the rubber polymers deteriorate making them stiffer.
In this instance if the tire has barely been used then it would not have deteriorated much at all provided it was stored away from the sun.
Most of us have observed that the stock tires tend to get noisy as it gets to the end of its life. I am sure the hardening of the tires is the root cause of the harshness.

Heat cycles, though, only generate when the tyres are very very warm, like over 60-70 degree. You are likely to drive it very quickly though the bends then.
Exposing to the sun have similar effect, worst of all effects tends to be focal, and therefore you see cracks.
Remember rotorconvert? Her hubby told me some Alfa racers used to wrap the tyre up with plastic kitchen polyethylene wrap during off season. I have "Glad"ed the old Yoko set before...

$1,300 for rims AND oem tyres is a fantastic deal - you're basically getting the rims for free. Anyone who wants a spare set of rims and replacement rubber should snap these up. I very much doubt a year in storage would have affected the rubber that badly.

How ridiculous! I just joined that Mazda forum to try selling my wheels there, but can't actually post any items for sale until I have already made 30 posts!!! That is just crazy.
