Certain CEL's take a certain drive cycle to light up. For example, one misfire isnt reason to light up the CEL, but say 10 in 10 min might be. The most common cause if you are still getting misfire in rotor x is the eshaft sensor as drewman pointed out. Its pointless going on until you know what the code is. Where are you located?

Cheers

Andrew

Im in Jakarta, Indonesia at the moment. When i cleaned the air filter the other day, i warmed up the engine. I revved up the engine across all rpms and the CEL lights didnt light up when the car is stationery. When it on the move then the CEL will light up.

Yea i think i will be getting the OBD key like Taka recommended. I dont trust wat the dealers said about wats happening with the rx8. I asked for the error code before and they say its just a problem with the "cylinder #1" LOL!!

It sounds like the P0301 or P0302 CEL which is usually the EShaft sensor.

Did you mean the error code? So mostly likely the E sensor is stuffed? Can i change the E sensor my self? Or just leave it as it is. If i dont change the e sensor will it have an impact on the engine itself?

hey stasis, just reading through old posts. did you get this problem fixed yet? if so what was it? if not, i noticed you said it was making a bang noise (on post #8) what kind of bang noise is it? My 8 did similar things when i bought it used, on the way home, so i took it to the dealer and it took them awhile to figure it out but it turned out to be the cat. It was a really hard sound to describe...but it wouldnt do it until the car got warm and it usually started around the same rpm's you are talking about.

just thought maybe this will help

Well there was no " bang". I think i meant if there was a misfire im sure to hear it>
But anyway got my OBD key a few months ago. And i finally stuck the key into the interface. And i find an error code of 301 which indicate A misfire in Rotor 1. So whats next? I got a whole set of the spark plugs, all 4 of them. So....

that is normal behaviour. you wipe the error codes and the pcm needs to experience the fault before it will relight the code.

I think it will boils down to

1, eccentric shaft position.
2. spark plug malfunction

As ofr the rest, I dont think its a problem. Like i said theres power across all rpms.
How do i check for the eccentric shaft? And also i did see a thread on removing the front rotor spark plugs before somewhere.
