Engine cover missing after service

People pleased be advised to check if you have still got your removable engine cover after a service - our RX-8 had its 1000 km service a week ago and I discovered the engine cover was missing last Saturday when showing a relative the engine area.

Now I have to contact the dealer tomorrow and arrange to get it back - they haven't called saying they found it yet.... does anyone know if there is any problem if the cover is missing ? Perhaps more engine noise ?

Does anyone else think the rear view mirror is too low on the windscreen - and have you done anything about it ?

Despite the double hinge, I'd still like to move it further up. In fact, if I can find a slightly smaller after market mirror I'll go for it!

I had the same thought about my rearview mirror when I first got the car. Thought it was in the way a bit. But now that I have got some more time up in the car (5000km), I don't even notice it any more.

The engine cover is supposed to provide some sort of improved airflow to the battery or something if memory serves... having said that, I'm sure your car won't blow up if it's not there for a week or two.

You may call me non trusting but after every service on any of the 24 cars i have previously owned i always do a check around the car and under the bonnet , especially when the oil is being changed , this job is ussually left to junior apprentaces , who are using your car as practise , i always check under the car for leaks , i have found tools inside under the bonnet , loose wiring , missing oil dip stick etc.

IN GOD I TRUST ALL OTHERS PAY CASH .

Guys. I can tell you that the plastic cover is coming straight off my RX-8 when I get it.

Its purpose is not for the battery & is only cosmetic. As the rotary engine runs hot, compacting it further in will only add to the heat build up.

My advise, if you get it back. Store it in the garage........
