care to share the location?
best to call mazda dealership for replacement items.
did the broken glass damage the leather seat?
an alarm system wouldnt prevent someone from breaking the glass and stealing a gearknob.....

Oh nice one.... Revolver has a second hand gear ****, but the window will have to be new I'm afraid...
Are you sure that only the Gear **** is missing? Seems to be a lot of work and risk for a Gear **** that is not likely to fit their car... Not even going to fetch much at the pawnbrokers... Just nuts.....
I agree with Ezzy's comment about the alarms - that person knew their stuff or just didn't care... Bet this was in the Sydney area!!

Plan to call two dealerships first thing tomorrow.
Painstakingly removed glass from seats, door, floor, console, dash etc etc mixed with tears before proceeding to the Police Station. Hopefully no additional damage although the appears to be a few scuff marks on the plastic of the seat (side).
Understand that an alarm would not have prevented the forced entry but I assume it would alertef me to the fact the it had happened and my have scared off the offender before removing the ****. Wishful thinking!

fitting the window glass isnt too bad....
i'd hate to think how much the glass will be...
whats your excess? if its over $1500, then i dont think its worth while going through the insurance and lose the NCB %.
the 8 gearknob is still a very popular item...

Maybe we need to go further south Tas to avoid such crime! As I have already tried Sydney once.
Seems to be just the gear **** (for what ever reason) as console, glove box, e-tag, supertooth, badges all intact. ????????????????????????????
Senseless I know! Expensive & Inconvenient as well.

Excess 450 standard + 250 flexible. Total $700. Loss of rating 1 said to be due to it being insured through a company name rather than private????

Hey mate...sorry to see this.
Care to share the name of your crap insurance company? There could be a lesson in this for all of us.
On the **** price....check ebay for starters. They regularly pop up there for around $50USD. I believe they are at least $250AUD here from the dealer. Keep an eye on the forum too, I reckon I've seen five for sale here in the last six months.
Start a thread in the Wanted/For Sale section.
All the best,
Gomez.

Stop searching eBay.
I am more than happy to sell you my **** as a sign of good gesture. Just name me a reasonable price. The only trouble is I don't know where it is atm. . Recently moved home.
While I am searching it... hopefully you would like to see around for some **** you like?
Let me know anytime... (sounds of Taka turning his study's carpet)...

Or you could get another (better) gearknob. Autoexe make some really decent ones and it wont cost you a fortune either.

Sorry to see the damage mate. I live just down the road from Essendon. I'll have to make sure I don't stop around there!
I've got the upgraded alarm system. It does make a racket if you get it to go off, more than enough to get someones attention that's for sure. It hasn't been used in anger, but I'm sure it would scare a thief off pretty quickly. On a side note, the back up siren makes it really difficult to remove the battery for a charge, or disconnect if you want to work on the car. As soon as battery power is removed, the back up siren goes off and you can't shut it down!
Anyway, I hope the replacement glass and new **** don't set you back too much and you get back on the road quickly.
Cheers,
Jared.

Sorry to hear about this. Senseless act, by all accounts -- probably a kid on a dare after a souvenir.
The window will be the expensive part. Check out costs with your dealer and insurance company, and let us know the outcome. At least it can all be easily and (hopefully) quickly fixed.

Oh man, I feel really sorry for you - that's just pathetic.
Tell you what - you cover the postage and you can have my old gear **** for nothing. It's a bit scratched around the silver ring at the top but I think that's pretty cheap to replace.
PM me with your address.

Unfortunately doesnt matter what area you live in, $hit is gonna happen. Essendon isnt that bad, hell, my area is spose to be ritzy and someone broke into my mums car early last year. Thanks to my barking doberman we look outside the window and see 2 guys in the car...... lol was funny to imagine what they could possibly have tried to steal.. she has about 100 rolled up tissues (not used, just she always leaves the house wit a bunch of tissues in her hand 'incase') and a glove box full of old petrol receipts haha
Thats nice of u dave

So sorry to hear about what happened to your car. I feel for you.....nasty thing to happen.....some people are just not worth the life they have hey! I'm glad for you that they didn't do any more damage...seats instruments etc..they obviously had one thing in mind...I agree probably a stoopid kid.....if it were me I would get an alarm I think it would make me feel happier that my car was safer....BTW it could lower your premium if your insurance company isn't too tight.....have you tried Shannon's?? I insured mine with them....good policy really....got all our cars with them..even got a new windscreen for the old Alfa..no questions....
Oh well hope it's not too expensive and as you see your pain is shared here by us.....how nice that you only have to worry about the window now...lovely to see the "pass it on" rule alive and well on the forum.
Just a thought...does window tint make the glass less easy to smash???
Ciao' RC

Dont think so. Tint specifications dont say anything about making the glass stronger/less breakable. To my knowledge tint is more for UV protection- prevention of much sun inside the car which in effect does not destroy dash/leather blah blah then also prevents much heat from getting into the car.
Me thinks... feel free to correct me

TintACar has a product called "Unbreakable" - its basically works the same way but is apparently slightly better. Almosrt all tint-ers have something similar =)
