was on the skidpan having fun doing skids!

This is the situation:

countersteer

rear wheels spinning in the wet

drifting

rear wheels make contact with a dry part of the skidpan

traction

car spins to face the direction of the wheels

goes up a hill surrounding the skidpan

low front bar + steep hill = no more front bar

Ouch....sorry to see that Drew.

Lucky there wasn't any other underneath, side panel damage etc.

You'll have to sweeten up your Desk Sergeant and work lots of overtime to sort that mess out...but you'll get there.

Maybe wait for the release of the revamped RX8 in 10 days and get front and rear bar if you like them .

Pity you cannot claim insurance / or can you

Drew, I hope you've got cover, but unless you're paying premium $$$$$ you could be dead in the water.

If you order the parts online they could arrive by the end of next week....

paying the excess would probably be the same as getting a new front and rear!

on top of that I'd lose my no claim bonus!

I'd be surprised if your insurance covers skidpan stuff unless it was an approved defensive drive course.

Otherwise, I know exactly how you feel.

I hear you and also feel your pain! It might take you a while to find them, but I'm sure some of us would have some extra parts laying around from modding. Colour match may be an issue.

You could also try these guys...http://www.mazdaautorecyclers.com.au/index.html Their shop is in Brisbane, so if you want me to do a personal follow up with them just let me know. I forgot to ask, did the air bags go off?

lol Drew you have the best temperament I have seen in a long while. I would have been guttered.

I got a phone call from him just after it happened and he was laughing. I think it was partly shock partly "it could have been worse" and partly "ohh well nothing I can do now".

As for replacement, I quite like the burnout kit.

RIP

Cheers

Andrew

Oh Dear!!!

Sorry to see the damage Drew, yes it's lucky there was nothing else bad done.... I would be mighty upset with myself though...can you teach me the secret of your reaction??? I beached the car over a kerb I had cut many times....beached it right on the line where the back door meets the front...I forgot we lowered the car with old wheels..... made an awful noise...I got out of it....stressing and looking under it.....must have been a funny sight.....woman in business suit leaving carpark....beaching car...getting out in clacky shoes and cursing when I she saw what she had done...had to go through noise again to get car off.... felt very silly. Luckily there is no immediately noticeable damage...cause it's underneath plastic shrouding....

Sorry Andrew...English teacher in me....it's "gutted" not "guttered" unless you are wanting to catch the tears.....

Good luck with the replacement parts......

I will just say. **** happens.

Yes it could have been worse.

Have a good look at the oil cooler. They are a bit fragile. But the casing is intact = good sign.

I have been there... spin and hill

Sorry to see your car in such a state Drew.

At least you were having fun and enjoying your car whilst you did it (in a safe and controlled environment)

I love the Autobahn front and was going to get it for my car, would be interested to see it in red. It gives a bit of a ferrari look i think.

Standing by for pics of whatever you get.

That would be a negative sarge!

Just imagine the car with no front bumper and a gutted rear bumper.

Thats my car atm!

I did fix the muffler! the problem was only the hanger getting inverted.

You still have your original bumper right? so you can fit that in while looking for a new body kit.

it was an approved driver defense course with Aaron MCGILL from Automotion Australia.

If I make a claim, it would be more expensive than fixing it myself!

And I would lose my no claim bonus on top of that!

Hahaha, it's safe to say Drew wasn't the copper doing the circle work in that now infamous clip.
