No spare for me........ waste of space, looks crap on car anyway, got the goop (if required), mate's a tow truck driver (if really required), and lastly, I don't have one anyway since I haven't bothered to go and pick it up from the dealer (wasn't in car at delivery).
dont carry the spare..... but i carry the goo tho (the tyre repairing kit).
you get more space, and less weight :D .
in the worst case situation, i have the mazda roadside service number, the goo, call up my mates to bring me a spare, or call up my neighbor... the truck driver :D

No spare. The goo is there if required. Unless you totally shred the tyre off the rim though, you'd probably find that you can limp to the nearest tyre place on the flat tyre anyway.
I had a "gutter incident" about 6 months ago and drove around for 2 days on a totally flat tyre without even realising. Didn't look flat and didn't feel flat.
Last week as well I went and checked the air in my tyres after looking at one of them for about a week and saying to myself "gee that one looks a bit flat, better pump it up next time I am at the servo". When I did, it only had 15psi in it. Explains why I was getting good launches that week!

I carry mine. I use my car for work, and I'm sure Murphy will prevail one day when I've got to drive to a meeting, if I didn't have it in the car. As I keep mine in the car, Murphy will prevail and I'll never need it.
Interesting about tire pressure Wilcard. I can tell by feel and road noise if mine have dropped 2 psi!!

On another quick note whats a good psi for stock wheels?
I carry mine all the time.. Doesnt bother me any, im not doing any street racing and or other activity that it will stop the car performing.

Got the spare, didn't want it, didn't pay for it! Always carry a small compressor, as long as the bead isn't broken I can pump it up long enough to get somewhere to get it fixed!
Note to self - 12V Mini Compressor for stocking stuffers this holiday season!
No spare - have goop, but must likely will not use it - 1-800-866-1998 for 24 Hour Roadside Assistance in the US.

Nenesis8,
Check that little black box in your trunk, it is should have a little 12 volt air pump in it. Do the Aussie cars have the pump also? I'd sure hate to be in the 'outback' with a flat and only that little can of goop

Choppy I reckon that's a fairly individual decision - only you can decide what trade-off between ride and steering feel/handling you are happy with. I'm a bit sensitive to the RX-8's low speed ride - hate the crash and thump over concrete joining strips etc. After a lot of experimentation I've settled on 37 psi all around, which seems to still afford decent steering feel, and an acceptable ride, for me at least. Regardless, I certainly wouldn't go below 34, as you are losing a lot of what makes the RX-8 steering so special.

But the wifes car does not have one, so it is still a note to self...
Used my spare last night. Got tyre repaired this morning. Tyre repair = $10. Cost of new tyre $418. (Need new tyre if you use goop!) I am one happy spare tyre carrier at the moment. That's $408 that stays in my pocket, for the sake of sacrificing some boot space!
If anyone wants to give me there spare I would like it. They would make good front
runners for the drags
Hey Lexic - what tyre would you get for $418?? The only reason I asked if 'cause I re-shod mine today. For a few bucks more per tyre, I got 245/40-18 Yokohama Z102's :D :D :D
Cheers,
Hymee.
