Saw a red one in Market Street tonight on my way home ...... felt like giving it a hug (so thats where they got the idea for the ad??)

Best way to handle the agony....go and drive all the demo cars at all the dealers....might help!!!

Also, maybe come along to the gathering on Sunday?!

 

Things I did while waiting for my finance to come through:

• Drive an RX8 in Project Gotham Racing... I think I have a feel for how the car will drive without traction control if I plant the foot, without having to try it :p
• Download the US model manual and read cover to cover twice
• Read every interesting post on this forum twice
• Prepare a checklist to remind you of the things to check when you pick the car up. I'm glad I check the fuel levels on mine... the car was short $10 worth.
• Identify a list of windy roads... to save you some time when you have the car
• Hand paint a "Rotors Only" or "No Pistons" sign for your garage (I didn't really do this )

 

I hate to rub it in, but I didn't even sleep the night before pickup day. Must have looked like I had an emotional breakdown :D

Plus I couldn't pick it up till the afternoon on a Monday

Go shopping for the best chamois you can find, hunt down the best compact first aid kit you can get. Ponder the best way to get MP3 music into the head unit frmp your iPod (them tell me!!!).

Nothing works though...

I waited 14 months for a TT Quattro, strange thing is, that seemed like a walk in the park compared to the relatively short wait for my RX8.

Have you seen the tape module hack in the Audio and Electronics forum?

I'm waiting to see if someone can go straight to the head unit... want to plug my $220 MD player in instead of forking out $800 bucks for the modular one.

Yes - followed the tape hack thread. I'm not crazy on running a dummy tape - let alone the look of a cassette tape slot in the dash of an RX8.

I got a JVC FM modulator - I'm told they're the best about ($89.00 AUD). Haven't wired it yet...

I'm not a fan of the short sighted development Pioneer have done to us - this isn't a Mazda issue in my books.

There's a Pbus adaptor for any line device that you can just plug into the normal Pioneer stuff, but not the gear they make for Mazda

Why someone hasn't made a decent unit that you can sync with wifi I don't know - my long term plan is to build up a boot mounted PC with a small touch screen for the interface in the cup holder area - integrated with the audio system.

Seen the latest offereings from VDO? That'd be nice!

Hmm... you gave me an idea...

PocketPC with inbuilt WiFi on a peer to peer connection + CF card could be an easy way to make something like this happen.

Just need to get that audio feed in.

I'm using the iTrip FM modulator to get the iPod to work with the RX-8 audio system. The radio receiver is quite good and the sound isn't too bad.

The JVC FM modulator unit actually has antenna in and out cables and needs to be seriously mounted, etc.

I'm hoping this means it'll give good quality.

Is the iTrip PLL ?

Talking iPods, decided to give my daughter the older 20Gb job and got an new 30Gb - almost the next day, out comes the 40Gb iPod and it's even cheaper than the 30Gb ... thank you Apple

The iTrip has a PLL tuner. You can set it to any one 102 different FM frequencies. You transfer the iTrip "songs" to the iPod. You then play the "song" corresponding to the frequency you want it to transmit on and that'll set the iTrip. Make sure that when you make any Smart Playlist for your iPod that you exclude any iTrip songs. Otherwise you might end up setting your iTrip to another frequency.

The other good thing about the itrip is that it is powered off the iPod. No wires.

It is best to try one out on your car radio first.
