Cost of Rotary oil
My brother recently bought a 2004 Black and got 5 litres of rotary oil yesterday from Eurocars at Artarmon. Cost $85.00
In Brisbane, I also needed some oil and expected to pay roughly the same, but my 5 litres from Grand Prix Brisbane cost $70.00.
My brother did some ringing around and learnt that the prices of rotary oil around Sydney varied from $70 - $85!
He then rung Mazda to ask if they could double check the price as there were some significant discrepencies, and got a pretty hostile response back from the DH saying "that’s the price mate...too bad" and hung up. Little did he know that my brother works for the Department of Fair Trading.
Follow up phone call to the Manager, and 5 minutes later he got an apology and a $15 refund cheque for the troubles.
One would think that partsl from Mazda would be the roughly the same everywhere... and it just seems silly there can be such a difference in price on something as basic as oil.
Surely Mazda can deliver some firm policy on price standardisation...and perhaps some basic customer relations training!

Just have a look at the varying price of servicing the car.
Each dealer is a business of their own and therefore sets their own price. Much as I hate paying the price as much as the next person, what can fair trading do? They obviously aren't in colusion and he can obviously shop around to get better price. Welcome to democracy I say.

Go with the underdog I say!
How are small businesses supposed to make their mark on the world when conglomerates like Mazda monopolise the market?

Trev,
Same thing here in Victoria, each dealership seems to be having different pricing. Ive found it ranges between $70-85 here also. Like Andrew said, each dealership is independent of Mazda Australia, yes they answer to MA, but have some discretion as to the charges they impose. Same goes with servicing, some dealerships charge more then others. I am not sure of the location of your brothers dealership, but freight and stuff for that dealership could be more then others.
For example, i know supermarkets in whoop whoop country would charge a bit more for certain things then supermarkets in suburbs (depending where) because the delivery/transportation rates are a bit higher to get to the country town. Not sure if this would be the case of dealerships, however they must have some reason for chargin a bit more.
Once upon a time 1 5litre bottle cost less then $60....
