Andrew, there goes the theory on Apple computers...perhaps its those from the competing companies who develop these trojans/viruses/spyware in the first place?

Just kidding. The two screen mode was first seen by me in the radiology department about the same time XP is launched. 2001 ish. That was cool. I did not know that I can do it with my laptop until few years ago.
me want to do it. One screen TV, video, other screen chat, email, forums.

I 110% agree
Buy a Mac I have to maintain Windows based PC's at work and hate having to do the same with the 4 computers I have at home. Since I switched to Mac's at home zero issues.

I went into get a new ethernet cable this afternoon, and found out by accident HP have a cash back promotion on their desktops, laptops and monitors.
It turns out I'm entitled to $200 extra cash back on the monitor, and $150 for the tower. Total = $350.00. http://h50025.www5.hp.com/ENP5/Publi...D=367&pageID=1
The saleswoman who discounted it for me, with 16 months deferred payment was also shocked (probably because I found out!)
Their profit margin took a hit, but thats life....its one for the gipper.

You generally only need 1 video card for 2 monitors as most cards have a dvi and vga output that work separately.
I have a SLI motherboard with 2 NVIDIA 7300 cards.
Left screen is a 19" LCD ,centre 22" LCD, right 21" CRT.
Arch Linux.
I write mostly web based software and 3 screens is no luxury.

Cripes three...its hard to imagine so many screens on a desktop, but from a multi-tasking point of view it must be very handy. It also makes sense from an economic perspective with three 20" monitors probably being half the price of a 60"...if you could get one! Simply amazing....

A 60" TV isn't going to help you with multitasking. It actually has a lower resolution than you can get on a single quality 22" LCD Monitor.
I used to run 2 and 3 monitors when I cared more about what I was doing on my linux workstation. It's a dual Opteron (each with dual cores) that has now been demoted to server duties. There's no other way to go if you've got more than a few windows open at once.

I'm such a flat earther with all this stuff. My eyes glaze over at the detail and I just want someone who translates 'puter geekspeak to English to tell me what to buy and how to work it. In other words, people like me keep you IT guys in work!
I've had a new plasma TV and HDD DVD player at home for over a week but I haven't been arsed to crack the covers of the phone book manuals yet.
Does anyone REALLY need all the functionality on offer in computers and home entertainment equipment?
(yep, a whole new argument, now that Trev's questions are sorted...)

Also have a Quad Core Desktop with 400GB HD and B Ray DVD Burner hooked up to my Sony Bravia 46" LCD, WOW what a PC!
In true 1920x1080 High Definition its and amazing PC to see and use with HD Digital TV.
So I can sit back and use the PC from 4 metres away and crystal clear, I am still working out if I can split screen the 46" Bravia and PC/TV or DVD? ...
If anyone knows how, I would appreciate some input.
DAVE,
Your plasma and DVD Player should have HDMI Connectors, so you can just Buy a HDMI cable from Tandy's ($49.95) and that is all you need to get them going together, if you have not already done so.
Running your PC through your plasma depends on the type of output from your PC's Video card, is it DVI?, you may need to get a converter adapter to change it to match your Plasmas PC input jack.
HDMI does not work for most PC connections to Plasma's or LCD screen, you will get vision but no sound.
A lot depends on the brand of TV monitor you have and its circuitry.
Apart from that once you plug in your PC to your plasma, Windows will configure automatically and work...XXXX Fingers!

I would get a hd tv card for the computer.
That way you can do a whole lot of different things.
The TIVO that Harvey Norman have been advertising is just a Linux computer with 2 DV cards on board running customised multimedia software.

So Sony can show 1920px in PC mode? That is good since other TV have lower resolution than the actual line on the screen.
HDMI lines are best brought on line or on eBay. Tandy's line is from China and the eBay stuff should be from the same factory.

As Andrew said Ash, buy another card and seperate the 2 TV.

The Tandy HDMI cable is of good quality and from what I have seen are all made in China, even the ones on eBay, some sellers make some very outrageous claims and when you ask where they are made....the reply is China.
As I said above the PC through the HDMI cable was perfect on the Bravia, but, not for sound, even with a mini plug to RCA sound line, with Sony it won't work as the TV's circuitry prevents the sound interface, you have to use the RBG pin on the Bravia.
I have only had the 46inch for a week or so, still learning, but it is brilliant, I took a long time to decide after looking at plasma and other lcd's. The Sony out shines them all IMO and worth the extra $$'s. Have had no problems viewing fast sport broadcasts, the response time is fine.
You can even see dandruff on the shoulders of TV presenters jackets!. It also shows up good and bad post production editing and lighting/makeup. Some networks need to lift their game.

For the record, please don't be a fool and pay $50 for a 6' HDMI cable. < $5. You can get higher gauge cable if you want. This brand gets rave reviews on AVSForum. I have 3 of them and they're great.

The $20 HDMI cable from the Apple Store myself. Comparable to the Monster but at 1/3 the cost.
It's not so much the circuitry as it is the fact that it's a stupid idea to allow audio from a 3.5mm input (meant to be paired with a PC VGA input) while using an HDMI input for video.
