I think the real problem is reving the **** out of it and then putting it into 5/6th
A normal skip on the upshift should be no problem.
Most people I talk to skip second and go sirectly into 3rd. (Normal speeds)

When skipping gears on down shift you can protect the synchros by 'rev-matching'. On an up shift there is no way to slow the shaft in the gearbox down, thus the synchros perform a "braking operation" creating wear.
Dont necessarily have to "rev the **** out off it", the gearbox was not designed to have gears skipped according to the MA representative.
Redlining any gear but fourth and chucking straight to 5th, will make it difficult for the car
to mesh.
But For gods sake, the cars manual! You drive it MANUALLY, the way it suits you, even if that means using all 177 kw at 8200 and shifting wherever the hell you like to shift it.

I was thinking about this today.. If this gearbox is as weak as MA seem to be saying, then I wonder how it will handle a turbocharged edition of the engine?? It would be great to have some documentation from the MA RX-8 turbo trials..
