Who changed their oil at 1000km? Will hit end of break-in this weekend and will do the 1000km check next week

I did. Had to pay for it as it isn't included in the "normal" 1st service. Didn't like the idea of little metal shavings being punted around the engine.

 

Two oil changes for me so far. One at 1000km and a second at 5000km. Got to keep the toy singing.

is that mean they didn't change the oil??

is that mean my car is not fully break-in yet??

 

I think Mazda Australia has changed the practice of oil change in the 1000km service.It used to be oil change whenever a new car is back for the 1000km service.But now it will only be changed if request by the owner and will be charged accordingly.The purpose of the oil change at this service ,as I am aware of ,is to dispose some of the metal debris may have left in the oil when the car is new and being broken in and just as a kind of cautious measure.But it shouldn't done much harm if not done as I was told.But for a rotory engine,then I don't know if this still applies?

 

Consider these things:

• If it was required to comply with warranty, they would do it.
• Your warranty is in tact if you follow the recommended servicing schedule.
• The Europeans wait until 20,000 km before the first scheduled oil change.
• The oil filter picks up any little "bits"
• Mazda knows more about rotary engines than anyone. In the early RX7 days, their rotary technology had got to the point where rotary engines lasted as long as most piston engines, even longer.
• Some people's attitude for break in is "drive it like you stole it". It may not be applicable to rotaries though, but I'm not sure why - metal bits rubbing against metal bits.

I guess what I am saying is if you follow the manufactures scheduled servicing then you shouldn't have problems. If you do, they look after you.

Did my 1000 service today (at 1400kms) and didn't get the oil changed.

Given that it burns oil, topping up should help keep the oil fresh. I'll probably change it myself at 5000kms. Looks like I've burnt about 340mls in 1400kms (assuming the oil drops linearly on the dipstick).

 

i'm booked in for tomorrow..out of interest what did you pay for the oil change? I'v also requested it.

 

SCO i spoke to mazda head office and they said that the oil does NOT drop linearly , it drops depending on various factors depending onyour driving style etc , so iam afraid we cannot assume certain amount of oil needed per km travelled.

It makes you wonder why mazda has not put in a better system of replacing oil needed instead of having the owners have an guesstimate at oil required and also the dipstick is hard to read and to get to.

4years of painstaking development and then they put in a shitty dip stick it doesnt make sense???

If only Mazda would get their act together and give us a solid recommendation on top up oil or get their "special" blend in, I would be much happer.

Ok, this goes back a few months. I heard that Mazda Auatralia are going to bring in the Jap-spec "rotary-oil".

I have a 1lt container here (from Japan) with a Y3400 price tag on it. I think thats about $48 per litre.

 

DMRH i also was told that mazda was bringing their own oil down under but at $48 dollars a ltr WOW they can keep it , i will stick to their sushi and the occassional japanenese geisha.
