Buyers Handbook

Is it just me, or does anyone think we need a handbook or checklist for people looking to buy a rx8, about to take delivery of one or even having bought one...(hang on that's everyone). We can't seem to trust dealers to get information correct. We need to set them straight and have a list of BS regarding everything from paint protection, power output, oil type, spare tyres, cpu revision number, etc etc. So someone can just take a list to the dealer and keep it in their top pocket for secret consultation (hehe). I am just constantly amazed by dealers.

FM, having just gone thru the very exercise and purchased a car, I can report that my dealer didn't really put a step wrong....

The salesperson I dealt with gave me a test drive at my first visit, (I had the car to myself for ninety minutes), I was given her Sales Managers copy of the RX-8 coffee table book to take home and read, as well as her copy of the RX-8 salespersons guide (in which it states not to "Bullshit"the RX-8 buyer, they know a lot about the car already!).

I actually only knew what I had read in Wheels and Motor, but having found this forum, I agree that buy the time I made the purchase, I knew more than the average person at the dealership.

After signing on the dotted line, I was allowed to "steal" the demo's owners manual until I took delivery! I was also given full access to speak to people in the service dept, and as a result got a 30 minute guided tour of an RX-8 undergoing service by a Renesis Technician.

My only (minor!) gripe is that having signed and been prepared for an extended (6-8 week) wait, the car was delivered in ten days. ....and I have yet to recieve my 2nd special key.

Sometimes the dealers get a bad rap, a salesperson can't be expected to know it all.

If there is a lesson to be learned, you have already learned it, you are using this forum......where knowedge is your weapon, Grasshopper!!

That is sort of a hard question. If you are unhappy in any way with how the dealer treated you, handed the car over etc, I would report them to Mazda themselves.

Remember the dealer is not actually Mazda, just really a franchise sort of thing. And it is extremely important for them that only +ve feedback gets back to HQ.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Just wait until you receive the survey from Mazda and you can bag out the dealer as much as you like if they've mistreated you.
