I'll be going - not decided what day yet.

Vote is still out whether the wife, and kidlettes will be accompanying.

The kids love clambering in and out of cars - always good to test the tolerance of the salesmen.

No free tickets though.

Thumbs down Brisbane Car Show.....So So....Go if you must..

Went to the Brisbane Car Show today (Saturday).

Car parking was abysmal. Went into the Exhibition Centre Car Park (no sign of any "full" signs, machine issued ticket) and then spent 30+ minutes queuing to get out as there were no spaces and be sent to a vacant block of land to park in the Sun.

Only bright spot was the satisfaction in seeing the ****** in a HSV who cut numerous people up and drove too fast down the wrong lanes in the car park in a vain effort to find a space/get out quickly emerged behind us. Petty I know but you take small victories where you can find them.

Virutally no one marshalling or organising the traffic not a good start.

Spent another 20+ minutes queuing to get tickets. As usual too many people wanting to use EFTPOS in the cash only lane!

As usual Holden stand to the left, Ford to the front. and Toyota to the right. As usual nothing even vaguely interesing on any. The Holden Adventura is a terrible inditement of the lack of consumer choice and interest.

Saw the Bentley GT - very nice but the price of 6 RX-8s. Of course the sales staff at the stand were so stand-offish they may as well been back down the Gold Coast at the dealership.

The Mazda stand was okay. Had a big hanging sign of the front cover of Wheels with the RX-8 COTY. Have come to the conclusion that I don't like the Mazda 3 especially that bump on the ****.

Despite forgetting our Free Coffee in the Invitation Only area invite, cheers to Simon from Mazda QLD, who kindly let us pull up a pew and knock back some free coffee and biccies. Even better we didn't get the hard sell from the salesmen that everyone else in the private coffer lounge was being subjected to.

The display RX-8 was red and had a few extras including the Petrol Cap and wing. Didn't like the cap at all - seemed tacky (might be largerly due to it not complementing the Red at all). The Rotary symbols front and rear are good (I'll get those on mine). The rear of mine will remain wingless.

Didn't even bother trying to get in the RX-8 - too many people. Got the kids to jump into the back - fitted the seats okay but no visibility (9 year old asked if they could have screens and a Playstation fitted instead). Rebuffed a sales guy who spotted the obvious desire (I don't think I was drooling) by saying I had already test driven one and didn't have finance at this time (all true).

They had the Mazda 6 MPS concept car. Titanium Grey colour didn't really suit it IMHO and it was roped off on a turn table. There was a time I would have been very interested but I've been converted to the Cult of Rotary.

Kids clambered in and out of numerous cars. 9-year old daughter displayed an alarming preference for two seat sports cars (wife noted resemblance to her father.....not much I could say to that :o )

Only really got accosted by sales drones on the Nissan stand whilst female party members were on a toilet break. One was dumb enough after being told by me that my current car was a Mazda SP20 and my next would be a Mazda RX-8 to ask if I was interested in a Pulsar!

Very few interesting cars. Wife remarked on how similar all cars were becoming.

Departed after a couple of hours with the usual complement of free balloons and literature, a free Courier Mail, and went back to the superheated car. Usual share of ******* leaving the area who failed to get in the correct lane, indicate and generally drive with consideration for their fellow road users.

Some lessons learned
1. Never go on a weekend again (Hello Captain Obvious)
2. Borrow my brothers parking card and park in his office - a block away (umm Hello Captain thingy again)
3. Not sure if it was good value - $35 for family ticket and $8 for parking.
4. Brisbane Car Show is too small for many manufacturers to show anything really new.

No offence ment to local brisbanites however having been to the Melbourne and Sydney Motorshows , Brisbane motor show just unfortunately does not cut the mustard.

Sydney motorshow is even better than Melbournes.

None taken (although I not a native merely a resident)

To be honest, all the Australian ones suck compared to those in the UK and Europe I have attended.

The best thing for Brisbane to do is move the date to a time when new cars are more likely to be imminent - there's pretty much nothing ever launching in Q1 of a year.

Obviously that may well mean competing with Sydney or Melbourne.

Hehehe - you can Brissy bash if you wan't, but I just watched the special on the '74 flood. Absolutley amazing. But the spirit of the community was amazing - one of the most enduring images was of a man saving a carton of XXXX - our beer!

I TOLD HIM IT'S NOT ON AND HE TOLD ME TO TURN IT ON THE ******

WHAT IS IT WITH CAR SALESMAN WHEN YOU LOOK YOUNG
THEY THINK YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT
ASKED ANOTHER SALESMAN IF THERE WERE ANY FUTURE UPGRADES HE SAID MAYBE IN 2 YEARS TIME

Hey Kimba, no need to shout (I'm saving our moderator a chore) even tho' it might be a Gemini trait.
We use correct grammer and syntax wherever possible.

For me, yes, you are young. However, search some of the U.S. threads to put "young" and rx8's into perspective.

Anyhow a warm welcome: are you an owner yet or buyer?
regards, jack.

I thought I heard a salesguy tell someone there wasn't a faster car on the road. Tossa.

So when you turned the key on, and the dash/speedo lit up, what did he say? ROFL

Cheers,
Hymee.

Dont get me started on Salesmen .... (or women for that matter)

When I first started considering different cars around a year ago (I like to do my personal road tests) I had a look at the Astra Convertible ( Thank God I didn't get one!!).

Anyhow I dropped in to the local Holden dealer to be confronted with a woman who said she'd love to help me but was only new so could I be patient with her. I thought this was a honest and genuine admission but I proceeded thinking she gets 10 points for honesty.

In the next 10 mins she proceeded to show me all over the car in quite a proficient manner when all of a sudden she seemed to almost switch to BIMBO mode at which point every question became prefaced with I dont know. Then, without warning she started telling me how she had been the top Subaru salesperson in NSW and that she left that dealer as she wanted to become sales manager and that it was a real shame that she didnt stay there coz Subarus are market leader in every catagory . etc . etc . etc.

W I E R D O to the max!!!!!!

Kimba,

Why did you ask him how fast it went if you already have one. were you just testing him or something, i ask because i am a car dealer and although the guy sounds like he was a ***, sometimes you get a stupid answer,to a stupid question. Maybe you came across as a smart ****. Dont take offence just asking.

Dale.

DALE A BREDE
I ASKED THE SALES GUY BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST IT GOES AND I THOUGHT HE MIGHT, CAUSE THERE HAS BEEN NO INFO ON HOW FAST IT GOES IN ANY OF THE MAGAZINES I'VE READ. WHERE AS ON OTHER MODELS THEY TELL YOU THE TOP SPEED OF THEIR CAR.
SO I WASN'T TRYING TO BE SMART TO HIM
BEING A SALESMAN YOU NEED TO KNOW AS MUCH AS YOU CAN ABOUT YOUR PRODUCTS FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME WHO WANTS TO KNOW EVERYTHING.
I LOOK IN MY EARLY 20'S THAT'S PROBABLY WHY HE HE SAID THAT AS IF TO SAY YOU CAN'T AFFORD ONE

I stumple to one sydney motor show without intentionally going there... just happen to walk pass - it is good. Melbourne tends to have the same thing all the time. I just use it to chat to the girls and book for test drive.

Kimba, the car goes 60 in a 60 zone,110 on a 110 zone. Anymore than that take the car onto a track or to NT and find out, because other than that the car doesn't need to go faster. As RR would say........"adequate"
