Attention, blue and red RX8 owner!!! (silver and black??). NSW

I just received my vivid blue number plates. They look fantastic!! My friend ordered red plates for his red car, they also look fantastic!!

Order one for your Winning Blue or Velocity Red RX-8.

Maybe the red one will also work on Silver and Black RX-8 with red leather.???not sure

Will post pictures soon!!

Ouchh, which dealer did he get the RX-8 from!! That is simply rude, most NSW Mazda dealers put premium white plates for their RX8 customers. Can't believe that put the yellow plates just to save $50.

Without trying to hijack this post.....

Did anyone with NSW premium plates get a plastic mounting bracket on the front that matches the slimmer profile of the front number plate?

My car was delivered with the premium plate screwed on to the standard sized number plate attachment for the front grill. The result is overhang above and below the plate. At least it was until I got stuck into it with a stanley knife....

My dealer says that they can't find a slimmer front mount, although I am sure that I saw one at the drive day.

Here's what I mean (bottom already hacked in this photo):

DGW - mine's the same as yours, those oversized mounting plates look out of place with the slim-line plates. I'd be keen to replace mine if anyone can suggest an alternative.

Winning - can't wait to see your pics. I've been considering the blue plates but it's hard to imagine what they'll look like on the car.

My dealer trimmed the top of my plate holder, but it looks quite poor, so they're investigating a local development for something like the mx5's.

I'll call them for an update tomorrow and post the state of play.

If nothing happens on that front, I'll fabricate my own. If I can do a good enough job, I'll show and tell...

I have a slimline qld plate on the front of mine. I hacked the holder myself with a stanley knife. I can post a pick tomorrow night if you're interested. I cut half of the round bits at the bottom, so you can't see any of the plastic holder from front-on. I'm actually pretty happy with the result.

Greetings All,

We've had our blue NSW rego plates for a couple of weeks and we love them - they really go well with the blue car. They are the best colour match you are likely to get in most light levels.

But get rid of that hideous bracket and simply screw the plate to the grill - our dealer did this for us and it looks great. You need to redrill the holes as they are not quite in the same place as the standard holes but the result is worth it.

We haven't seen any others - in any colours yet.

I am trying to get a photo to show up - if I get it working you will see what I mean.

I've also cut the top off my bracket since the photo was taken. Getting rid of it all together sounds like an even better idea, provided it doesn't do any permanent damage to the grill. Keen to see your photo's, jeffneil.

If it can be "set in" - I'm doing that. I thought it must have been some sort of RTA requirement to have them sticking out like that.

Sorry Guys,

I can't seem to get the hang of including a picture just yet - do you have to upload it to the forum site ? Anyway - I will have another go soon - I promise you - the result is worth it !

The plate now sits on the front of the grille instead of the plastic fitting so it doesn't protrude beyond the bumper so it is less likely to get caught on something.

Not sure, seen it in Canberra twice, but not for about 6 weeks.. mind you, not sure the owner really cared, the first time I saw her, she was toolin' around off the side of a main road, in the dirt and stones, talking on her mobile phone! Hmmm... probably got the auto too :D:D

And the beauty of having a black car with black plates means that whilst the front holder is really big and the plate is too wide for the holder anyway, it doesn't really look too bad anyway. I had to drill a separate hole in the rear plate to get it to fit, Mazda reckon they were doing the same on all the local delivered cars (I got mine in Albury and drove back with no plates)

To attach a picture, you have to hit the 'post reply' box to the bottom right of the last thread. This will then take you to a separate page where you can post your reply and add an attachment ( you'll need to scroll a bit further down).

The reply box at the bottom of the page that lets you type directly into it is a quick way to post a reply.

One more attempt before I disconnect for the night at attaching a picture of the blue plates and the grill mounting - let's hope it worked.

And reduce the pic to < 100k, ohterwise it'll reject.

Jeffneil - thanks for the pic. Can you describe in a bit more detail how you have screwed the plate to the grill. Did you have to drill any holes in the grill itself, or is the plate held on by other means?

Cheers,
DGW

Well, here's my black one with black plates... front one isn't that good for seeing the plate though. Have to be patient, not a fast link those pics are coming from.

We opted for silver letters/numerals on a black background for our Qld personalised plates - slim line in front. The car is Velocity Red, but the plates look most unobtrusive particularly against the black grill. Grand Prix Mazda at Aspley did the mod on the bracket at the 1000km service (free-miracles do happen). The front plate sits up nicely at the top of the grill. After Locktite-ing the screws, I also painted them black to match. God I'm an RX-8 tragic.

Thanks Guys for the tips on getting photos to display here. I have some here that should explain the look a bit more - the back one was the easiest - although I had to redrill both front and back plates to fit the only 2 screw holes available.

These new plates feel like they are made out of aluminium as they are fairly lightweight. The holes on the front grille go through to the two metal brackets that held the plastic mounting on so they can be used again without it to screw the plate onto.

Now where is a red plate - I'd like to see that. Those black ones look fantastic don't they ? Are they $70 per year like mine in NSW ?

I'll put a couple of pics here now in 2 or 3 posts so stick with me !
