510 for 1

510 for 1

My 8 is 2 years old and has 17,500 km's on the clock and I have just broken the 500 km's per tank mark, 510.2 to be exact . My previous best was only about 450, my average would of been around the 430 mark . Do any of the motor techno gurus have any explanations on why the big difference? I haven't been doing too many things differently except I redlined about 6 times with this last tank (compared to about 0 to 2 on previous tanks ).

Cheers

Country trip? Change of fuel supplier? Ran deeper into the fuel light before filling?

None of the above, same fuel, similar cost to fill up, no country trips, had head and tail winds........ wait, the missus didn't use the car (she usually puts on more miles than me) .... the only difference I can see is that the car was driven more aggressively, none of this driving miss Daisy $h!t . No hooning around or speeding, just taking my time on gear changes and letting the revs do their thing.

Kunz,

LOL probably did forget to reset, but I didn't. ..... well I bloody well hope I didn't coz if I did that would mean only 255.1 km's per tank.

Which, funnily enough, would fit your pattern of recent use.

I call for a re-run. Any scientist will tell you the experiment has to be capable of duplication if anything reliable is to be drawn from it.

You probably need to do it at least five times to draw any meaningful stats, but a good effort!

On a trip, I can get in the high 9's (L/100km), but around town I nudge 12 these days because I use a different route to our new place.

HA! WHen I drive I get 3-350Ks to 56 litres. When my wife drive 500 easy. I got to 400 once when I drove up the hume the on 110 the whole tank. I have only done 11k's and my wife would be lucky to rev it past 3500rpm.

OK, so I've had my 8 for two and a half years and I've done about 44,000 km. I've been keeping fuel usage stats from the beginning. My average consumption is 14.93 L/100km and my best ever is 10.3.

Most of my driving is around town, and I do like to hear the sound of that engine revving, so I guess that explains the higher consumption. Unless anyone has a better theory!

498 on this tank, and I only put in 53 L (510 was 56L). I have been revving the car a lot more going through the gears (up and down).

Any way, who cares what the reasons are, I'm having more fun driving and spending less on fuel.

Happy easter

Good on you Bat1.

There's no way I can get near this, even when wearing grey cardigan on a long trip with 'er indoors in ...er ...an articulate, instructive mood

One day, someone will explain the long term fuel trim thing to me, and I'll understand if that has anything to do with it

Man...When you go to sell the car, make sure you include that on the description..."One of the few RX-8's that get good mileage" :D
