I'm getting incredibly keen to try and make my car flood just to see what happens.

L&L - How many times have you been a passenger in an auto to be able to state how most of them are driven??

L&L - Why do you think the Australian and Japanese cars have different PCM Calibrations. They might be different, but when you plug one of our cars into the WDS is comes up with something along the lines of "RX8 - Japan/Europe/Other". I suspect the North American ones have a different reading.

L&L - I though you drove one at the track day before delivery? Did you walk away impressed or otherwise?

To get this thread back a little on topic... I have not seen the judging criteria for the award this year.

The "% flooding issues in the field" is probably not one of them.

As far as i know over 4 forum members who are well acquainted with rotaries and the Flooding problems have actually flooded their car in recent times .

Point being that these members are far more in tune with the rotaries than the poor uninformed AVERAGE JOE RX8 buyer OUT IN THE REAL WORLD .

So if members are flooding their cars whats the chance of the average unknowlegeble rotary driver not flooding theirs ???

I admit I don't know much about cars

 

I drive my 8 like a baby; it rairly sees over 4K. I do rev it out on occasions but it's only seen the full redline under 10 times.

I have had troubles starting the car, but it has never failed to start. I have had the same problems with piston engines.

I have had more trouble starting the car when it is warm but it has been off for more than 5min.

my car has been stalled 5 times in a row (I shouldn't let friends and family drive it ) but every time it started first key turn!

I reckon the engine is fine and 9 times out of 10 it is the operator.
Mazda .au never clamed over 177kw and that what peoples dynos runds indicate we have about.

A fuel economy rating is based on a model of a 'normal' every day drive to the shops on the street, hiway and free-way. The test is limited to set acceleration rates for each stage of the journey. so it is possible to achive better or worse figures for different situations. so the number is only a arbitrary figure of what can be expected. even the sticker says so.

to think the number is a set rate of fuel consumption is rediculous. if people think the number is not done to the set standards why don't you contact one of those buyers groups that test products claims and see if there interested in testing out the false fuel consumption figure?

 

Agree to the last paragraph. I have yet own a car live up to the stated fuel comsumption - Civic 6L/100km (real life 8L/100km). Integra 8.9L/100km (real life 11L/100km), and now RX-8 12.6L/100km (real life 13.5L/100km). Considering that I am not complaining

 

I can't complain about my consumptions figures compared with the sticker.

 

This is the sort of thread you'd expect to see on the US forum.

This is a great car (maybe not perfect), and I can't stand to see owners whinging about it...

By the way I'm one of the "average unknowlegeble rotary driver " and after 30,000K have had no flooding problems (and have taken no precautions)

I thought this year, Toyota Prius Won the internation engine award for 2004.

I remember RX8 won 2003. but not sure if you are talking about they have won for this year as well?

Hmm... it would be a very long downhill (100km????). Timbo/Hymee --- have you ever get near 8.3L/100km at ANY one time?

I'd say it might be obtainable instantaneously at steady cruise on a flat road at the right RPM etc..., but hard to average over a tank.

Ok, how about put it on the back of a tow truck, flood the attempt to start the engine and flood it instead all the while measuring fuel consumption on the way to the service department
