2008 RX8 Nationals - Lakeside Raceway (Queensland) on 4 October'

Bottom line is mark your calendars the track has been reserved for us for Oct 4th
They are emailing me the booking forms then we will need a 20% deposit to complete the deal but he is willing to wait a little while on that so not pressing. Rest of the info is in this thread.

OK guys I made a couple of calls.
Right now Queensland raceway seems to had a tentative date of Oct 4th held for the RX-8 club of Australia. But they were told the cost was prohibitive so it was called off. $12,000 was the cost for a Sat.
However Keith just called me back we can have Lakeside now for 4 hours either on the 4th of Oct or the 11th for $4,000 or $6,000 for 6 hours which is the full day there.
I expressed concern about Lakeside maybe being a little too challenging for a club but Keith said they have run a number of club events there lately with out incident and they have done some upgrades to make it a bit safer.

So thoughts please because to make this happen it has to be decided pretty fast.

Also whomever the RX8Club is will need to jump in here and be willing to write a check and sign the papers if we decide on it.

My thoughts is we go for the Lakeside track, it will be a bit challenging but it is an iconic track.

$6000 among 30 cars is $200 each. Not cheap but, heck, you guys own RX-8's so what do you expect. I'm up for it, if small red cars are allowed

mdr, well done for getting this back on track. I say get it moving forward with lakeside for the 6 hours. From what I have seen lakeside is no more challenging than Wakefield and Winton.

I asked myself, "Where the bloody hell is Lakeside Track." So I did a decent forum member act and google it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakesid...tional_Raceway

Pine Rivers it is. North of Brisbane. So does it mean it is a fairway away? Well it is only 1,716.52 km from home. No drama for most of us I am sure.

In their official website the track is very picturistic. And there is a Hungry Corner

OK here is where we are.

I have a call into George Foessel about the Norwell option and the sponsorship Trev talked about with him.

I also have been trying to get in touch with a contact of mine that works with a motoring school about any options they have.
However if I do not hear from either of them by noon tomorrow then I am going to go ahead and contact Keith at Lakeside about getting the ball rolling on it for Oct 4th. At least lets get the track booked and a date then we can start working on the extras.

I agree that Lakeside is the way to go.

Happy to co-ordinate the NSW troops to the extent they are amenable to co-ordination. Also happy to assist with any legal or documentation issues.

Seems some of our cousins from the ozmazdaclub.com/forums went to Lakeside for the reopening run on the 5th of April and enjoyed the track.

www.timeattack.com.au have already had their first event there (4th April), with their second event scheduled for the 9th June IIRC. I'll be there in October with the MX-5 Club of Queensland....the track has been open for club events since March. So you should have no concerns about its condition.

Here's some video footage of my 626 from back in 1998. At that stage it was powered by a large extend ported 13B with a modified Nikki 4-barrel carby...and plenty of fuel surge

The footage shows most of the circuit...'The Kink', 'The Karrussel' (spelling), 'Hungry' and 'The Eastern Loop'.

Oh yeah, and count me in for the 2008 Nats!

Cheers,
Danny

OK talked to Keith again this morning.
The $6,000 for the day includes the liability insurance each driver will need a AASA license can be bought for $20.00 for a day license if you already have one from Winton, QR or lakeside then you are good to go.
IF anyone wants to take passengers in cars then there will need to be another $600 for public Liability Insurance to cover them. So debate that amongst yourselves if we all want to pay that or just the ones that may want to take a passenger pays that extra bit.

Ambulance hire is an additional $450.00 for the day including paramedic.

As I said before I will be leaving tomorrow night for Fiji and will not get much more done until I get back on the 7th.
But we do have a track and we do have a date, then when I get back I will work on hotels and figure totals for track ambulance etc.

Bottom line is mark your calendars the track has been reserved for us for Oct 4th
They are emailing me the booking forms then we will need a 20% deposit to complete the deal but he is willing to wait a little while on that so not pressing.

Oh and one side note there is a noise limit on the track. As most of our cars are street legal this should not be an issue. However if some one is planning on bringing a race ready car with open cat etc.. be aware of this restriction.

Your car will have to pass two sound tests; one static and one active. The static test will be carried out in a specified area and will require the engine to be taken to 5000 RPM and held for 5 seconds. A measurement with a calibrated sound level meter will be taken 8 metres behind the car and the reading MUST be under 92.2 dB(A).

Are instructors regarded as passengers? If so, suggest the $600 be factored into everyone's entry fee (only adds $20-30 for 30-20 cars).

Although I personally think the way we run track days at Nationals gives rise to very little risk of an accident leading to injury, I'd hate to cut corners on an ambo and then find someone has a major stack and needs urgent treatment. Accordingly, I vote that we get the ambo.

Happy to assist with deposit cost if we need to pay it before revenue comes in from entryies. To that end, suggest we finalise entry cost and entry forms asap after your return from Fiji.

Have fun. Went to Castaway last year - very relaxing.

Agree with Dave, ambulance is a must. We've had one at all previous Nats, and never needed it,but for the small individual cost it's essential.
Passenger rides aren't my favourite thing. They had them at Winton, and one of the first cars out promptly spun [on the first lap,I believe].No-one was hurt,But the potential was there.
IMO Instructors are the only ones who should be in the cars with the owner.
My 20c worth.
Cheers

Agree and Agree

Done and Done

I am too busy studying testis today; not having time to find youtube clips of in car footage. Only found one WRX which likes to go out to the dirt a lot. I think the 2 double right corners are the key. Other corner is fast but not require much skill.

Turbo car will have major advantage over handling car; minor mistake will cost seconds on NA cars.

Guys at this point I dont know if I will be able to car it up but I may be able to make it up as a spectator.

If Mark is happy to use the QLD club and account then I suggest it will be easier to do that. If not let us know and we can sort something out with OzRenesis.

Again, well done Monte on taking this up. Its a big job but you have lots of people who are willing to help. Dont be afraid to PM people with tasks to do. Also let me know if you want sections setup on .com.au forum and who you want with what access.

Cheers

The numbers are growing. I am definitely in as well.

I hope there is a strong Qld contingent. I may be able to attend meetings to provide input however, right now I am too busy to help.
