Tough love I know but the issue with introducing the non RX-8 contingent is that it looses its appeal for most RX-8 owners. Its meant to be a "celebration" of the 8. Loosing the focus on that loses the interest on the target market and we will get even less interest.

You could count Danielle and myself in (Although we do make up that no RX8 group )

As regards location... Anywhere is good

Hmm, I thought this was going to fall in a heap. Not getting a track booked was fatal.

I would be happy to attend either track for a genuine RX8 National event but Andrew is correct - despite increasing sales (and continued efforts by those organising) there has been decreasing attendance at each Nats since the first one.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...

Had an idea that we could do a no frills track day at Wakefield?

What do you mean by a no frills track day?
Might be in for it depending on what you have planned. Long drive from QLD but doable.

Sounds good to me Andrew.

Forget about the t-shirts and showbags. We organise our own accommodation, etc and just meet up in a pub or similar the night before for a few drinks and a bite to eat.

Maybe just pick an open day at Wakefield for that matter - I'm sure they'd be able to accommodate the 15-20 odd that'd turn up...

Haven't looked into it and I hope timbo can pipe in here but I really like the cabins at wakefield. They cant be more expensive than cheap accom in town can they?

Matt, I would like to see if we can get an RX-8 contingent together first. We can take it from there.

Cheers

Andrew

RENEW isn't a viable option as their days are over-subscribed now.No way they could fit in 15-20RX8's.
Stand alone event is the only option.Main problem is $$$.
Wakefield's new hire rates make running a weekend day on 20 starters around a $300 entry fee probability.[Plus accomodation-$60 per night at the Wakefield Hilton]If this is OK we could investigate a bit further, but time is of the essence here, obviously.
Everyones thoughts on a postcard please. And SOON!
Cheers

If it is an 8 day only then I would be up for a drive down.
If it is going to be joining some other group on track then I can stay home and do the Weds afternoon sprints at QR.

Cost is a little high at $300 but I could swing it since I figure it will cost me double that in rooms and petrol for the drive down and back.

Choices are a Friday to bring costs down or a Saturday to get more attendance.

I don't have any difficulty with a $300 entry fee. Really, it's not that much more than the $200 odd you usually pay for this kind of day anyways...

I would also be very happy to attend a Wakefield day.

A quick look at the Wakefield website shows booking details only up to and including May. Probably they have days booked out later than that but do not post them in the diary except for only 1 or 2 months ahead so I rang them to see weekend availability for say October/November. I was told all weekends are taken for the rest of the year except for one cancellation they have had in July.

Sorry guys but at this stage Wakefield is fresh out of Fridays and Saturdays this year.

I also had another thought, is it worth moving the Nat's to easter time? or some other long weekend?

Great if it can be done, Andrew....but I reckon trying to find a free track at those times will require a 4 year planning horizon

I concur with you Timbo. The main issue is securing a suitable venue with a compatible date. Morgan Park and Queensland Raceway said there were certain 'no go' zones in their calendar year with some clubs (e.g. Porsche) having a permanent arrangement.

The venue needs to have a capacity to provide the facilities, which was also was also one of the issues we were confronted with when trying to pull together everything from scratch for Morgan Park. Us having a 'bad name' didn't also help.

It will either be a case of first in best dressed, or what not you know, but who you know that will see the ideal venue with the ideal date to suit all....

What's happened to the RX-8 "Club" that was set up as part of hosting the 2006 Nats?

Would that be the one that would'nt let us use the $2000 odd surplus from that event for the Nats at Winton last year because they were "gunna" do it in QLD this year???
Look what you've gone and made me do Timbo. You're a bad influence...
