[Reflection] - NSW CRUISE 12/3/06

I'd like to thank everyone for coming to yesterday's cruise on Waldo's behalf.
Appreciated Waldo's appearance even though his mum was at the hospital from her travel illness. Hope she recovers soon!

I'd also like to thank Kall, Taka, Adrian and Lawrence for coming from interstates, resident photographers Tom and Xcentrik, fellow local RX8 owners/friends, as well as those untra-friendly ACT ppl. Had a good time! great weather (im sure most of us got "abit" sunburnt), and was nice to be able to put names to faces!

I think this cruise deserve a new thread of its own for the reflection/review, as both Kall and I have had some issues during the day (& maybe some others...). I will wait for Kall to "speak up" once she is back in Melb and well rested.

So in the meantime, any reviews, critcisms and future cruise/get together ideas are welcomed.

Please dont be shy, it will let us make better ones i the future!

/I'd appreciate if the photos/pix is posted at the following thread..

Hehe, thanks everyone for coming and helping it become such a success!

although some unfortunate people got seperated from the pack (us included), everyone eventually found their way!

Shame that Keit missed the damn dam turnoff! everyone raced ahead and a bunch of us were lost!!

haha..

Thanks guys (used in the most non-sexist way) for helping a couple of hicks from the north feel welcome.. Special thanks to Robby-jai for playing host all day to us..

We had a great time catching up with all the Nats people and meeting new ones... (Hey MissyK - did you like the photo that I took of you and Ezzy? - look on the .com.au forum... You might need to ask an older member about the photo..)

It was really great to see that Playa98 didn't let a little thing like half a missing car keep him away from the cruise - great stuff mate... It was also great to see Kunz's car and the Royal Jaffa in the flesh - a mighty great job guys...

The destination was great - the Finance Director and Miss 6 loved the photos - it is a shame that I can't post many of them... I took 82 from the back of Robby_jai's car... Man that back seat is great - I had awful trouble getting the keys to the 8 back off the Finance Director today - seems that I was jet lagged and not capable of driving the car..

Thanks for coming down with me Jambos - we will make a whole weekend of it next time - shopping was great, but I had a little trouble with Miss 6's mecano Spitfire when the security guy at the airport was convinced that it was some kind of bomb..

Three Cheers for Waldo the Cruise Master

alright... here are some of my concerns, since kall is abit shy with her post

1. lots of clean RX8's
2. lots of nice/interesting ppl
3. the weather was great
4. some nice roads
5. the view at the dam was great, expecially at the middle of the dam
6. there were alot of slow moving objects on the road.... ie. boring/clueless sunday drivers... near accident #1
7. more than impressed with the parking spots at the gong
8. great sunny weather at the gong, got sunburnt and lots of chicky babes in bikini
9. there were about 10 diffrerent "groups" of ppl.... maybe we can be a bit "united" next time
10. frun driving back to sydney ended when we got into national park, where they were supposed to be alot of fun, sprinted twisties. Dave and Kunal braked while entering a "quick" corner while Waldo was clearly way infront, and was no where to be seen, RESULT: i had to brake hard entering a corner and i think i scared kall and almost **** myself thinking i was going to rear end kunal and seeing a blue 8 in my rear vision mirror getting closer didnt help much..... alot of swearing words exchanged between kall and myself...... near accident #2
11. a couple of corners later..... similar thing happened.... luckily it was on a semi straight.... therefore i was able to see it sooner and apply the brake alot sooner. after that, i told kall that i will just sit back and cruise at a slower-than recomm ended speed/pace (im sure some of you would be surprised to hear me saying that). no point doing a proper sprinted twistie runs when there are ppl braking just to gain some distances for themselves... its simply too dangerous!
12. gave up and cruised the whole way back to the city in turtle speed... we didnt talk much on the way back.... i think we were too exhausted with what happened on the way back

thats all i have to say for now.....

Ezzy

I agree with concern no. 10. Being as I was second last in the 12 car queue through the National Park, it certainly kept me on my toes! Nothing quite like following another spirited 8 into a corner only to have him stopping abruptly so as to avoid the sharply braking 8 in front of him. Just saying that what was happening to you is excacerbated %100 down the line.

As you say tho, it was a very enjoyable drive. The missus was very happy when I eased off!

Big thanks to Waldo for organising and you guys for showing me the scenic way to Sydney.

Cheers

This is my 2 cents .

Being the lead car was always going to be difficult, but 1 of my main aims on the day was that I tried keeping every1 together from the start till the end . Yes we came up to some so slower traffic along the way(thru the Natio), which was a slight problem . I had every chance to overtake these cars on a few ocassions, and I know my car was up for the challenge as I would have done so if I was bymyself(or only a couple of cars).

Except I didn't because I knew that some of you would have been able to pass but not all of you, as there isn't too many overtaking areas(which could also become dangerous with the amount of cars). So hence if I did, we would have broken up and become split up . I did notice a couple of times that I had 12+RX8's(no doubt more) in my rear view mirror and then no1 to be seen on a couple of occasions . I thought something had happened, so I slowed down and one of the times a biker got between me the next 8 because of it .

This is a really great road and is even better when there is no traffic coz u can have a bit of fun, but it is also a very dangerous road at the same time. I see where your coming from EZZY/MISSYK/GENERIS as it is definitely not something I ever want to happen, a rear ender during a cruise . Not only could it be an expensive repair, but it could cost your life(especially on this road), even with 8 airbags.

Like I said just my 2 cents worth.

Cheers ,
Waldo / ZZOOM / ZOOMBY

Eric, think your feedback is great, it would be nice to have something "planned" at the end of the cruise or lunch stop. A common BBQ or something to create glue. Sounds a bit silly, but we should do some badges and/or stickers for the cars, I had a few problems remembering names and putting people to cars. I.e. hard to remember everyone's avatar & names & car! The "nats numberplate" idea of Otto's and others was a brilliant one.

The cruise and location was great, fantastic view n'all, but hillside, full car park and distance to food meant people naturally clumped in different spots.

We missed the stunt driving at the end, the girls were getting tired, I'm glad i missed it.

I most enjoyed the group drive down, the impact on the pedestrians as we drove by and being in the middle, with cars all around was fantastic. My kids couldn't stop shouting!! They had a ball!!

Sunday arvo's aren't my fave for twisty driving in anycase, unless it's remote (too many hat drivers). Better to go solo & somewhere away from the crowds (or on the track). But thats just me.

Waldo, mate you brought together the biggest grouping outside the Nat's. Well done mate, I'm sure you will have no problem in getting some more takers for the next one and volunteers to help.

I don't mind the National Park drive at all... my heart was bumping (I nearly wet my pants) - since d00ny was driving and shift locked into the corner! ... I felt sorry for the blue one behind us

Thank god for the DSC

Ditto! Actually that was the highlight of the entire cruise for us =) Didnt seem like Dave was braking hard at all.. infact, I was enjoying every bit hehe =)

I've learnt to NOT tailgate as much after Murcotts

BTW Eric, sorry to hear about what happened, hopefully we'll be avoiding hard braking etc in future cruises =)

Well, I've been away for a couple of days so didn't know this little contretemps had been going on.

Firstly, I wholeheartedly apologise for any scares, heart flutters, etc. Never my intention to cause any problems at all.

Let me say a few things in my defence and since Kunz was right behind me at the time he can say whether I speak the truth or not.

The whole bunch was caught behind some slow cars, thus wasting a great opportunity to enjoy at least a few corners on this wonderful stretch of road.

At no time did I suddenly hit the anchors in the midst of a 'spirited' drive as Eric seems to be implying, and it certainly wasn't into a corner. Up till this point there had been no 'spirited' driving due to traffic in front and every corner was being taken at a very pedestrian speed. Both times when on a straight I gradually slowed to give us some space. It is something I and others have done on a few cruises and there's never been any problems.

Can I suggest there was some tailgating going on (no names and no packdrill). I noticed a number of times during the cruise that people weren't giving themselves much room to brake, which is why I always ensured I was up near the front.

If it makes you all feel a little better next time I shall make my own way to and from the cruise destination.

well..... i think i have voiced enough in this thread.

the whole purpose of this thread is to discuss what happened and what we can do to make sure we have a more enjoyable and safer future cruises/trips.

i have 4 eyes, so i tend to see abit more than other ppl.....

its all good, i think it was worth while going through this instead having the "real" thing.

nice wheels you got Kunal...... new wheels time for me soon
