Talking [PICS] My new addition

Well I bit the bullet yesterday and bought some new rims and tyres for track. All in all it cost me $3300.

Rims are G.Max M168 18x8.5 http://www.gmaxwheels.com.au/catalogue1.php?id=M168

And the tyres are Falken Azenis RT-615 255/40R18 95W http://www.stopandgotires.com/models...8-352-844'

Here are some pics of them on my car

The tyre looks fat

Did you weigh them before putting the tyres on?

The rims are 8 1/2" , 255's are fine for that width, Taka.

I did not say it is TOO fat did I?

In fact 255 is the perfect width a/t some Japanese racers. I have to settle for 245 since the next size up for my semis are 265.

Nice purchase!

The 615 makes a very good all round road and track tyre. A lot of the US MX5 guys run them.

Just note though what the MX5 guys have found is they do heat up a lot on track and after 4 to 5 hard laps on them they will want a cool down otherwise the compound will go off. As I said though a bloody good dual road/track (non R compound) tyre offering fantastic levels of grip. Not too much on the market for this purpose that is as good or better. Not too bad in the wet either!

Very purposeful looking set of equipment. Congrats.

Look forward to hearing what effect they have on your laptimes.

I only weighed them "by hand" and the new rim/wheel combo felt heavier then the stock rim with the Pirelli pzero 235/40's I have.

I was a little disappointed at being recommended tyres that are not R-Compound when I was fairly expllicit that they were track only tyres. But I guess as a first track tyre they aren't to bad. Lets see what the are like :-D.

Cheers

Well Winton is done and dusted and my verdict is that these are a gerat tyre if you want a dual purpose road/track tyre. But for a track tyre, they really are only good for 4-5 laps maximum before I was sliding all over the place (knew those skid pan lessons would come in handy!!!).

That being said, during each session my 2nd lap was consistantly my fatsest and across the day I shaved 3.3 seconds off my best time, but I also have my EBC Red Brake pads since last time as well.

Cheers

Andrew
