Cracked Windshield

My windshield glass sudenly has a crack in it. It doesn't look like it started form a stone or anything like that - it starts at the very top of the glass where the seal is.

I hope this is covered by warranty. Anyone know for sure?

That phenomena has been reported before on the forum, so do a search and read the threads. If you have a "good" dealer, he should replace it.

sorry to hear that. That would make me so angry if the crack started for no apparent reason. At least I know that my cracked windshield was from a stupid rock (still angry!)

Dealer should replace...

Mine cracked twice for no reason - go see your dealer and be pushy - the first guy in the service dept told me there was a tiny chip and it wouldnt be covered so I went and got the head of the service dept. He said no problem. They installed the new one - and it cracked within 3 hours!
So I am on windshield #3 - been holding up for over 2 weeks now!

Now that you mention it, today as I was waiting at a stop light ... the car in front has a cracked windshield, the one to the diagonal right and also the one beside me! That would have been a weird sight with 4 cars with cracked windshields together.

Good luck on getting the dealer to do it for you ... I guess if they can't spot any obvious damage they gotta replace it.

well with all the gravel they put on the roads during winter its no wonder there are so many cracked windshields.

they usually run a pen along the crack to tell if it was from a rock chip. most dealers will only replace it if it was caused by stress.

If it is anything like the cracks from the Protege then yes it is covered under warrenty. However they are very picky and often decline it. They need to see it starting very the very very very very edge of the glass with no chips in the glass.

Good luck

Just took mine in for the very same thing. Same location too.

Here is how you will have to pay for it. First the service advisor ran his pen along the crack to feel for the chip. He felt it, but could not see it very clearly. He breaks out the jewelers loop puts it on the crack and lo and behold, a chip! NOT COVERED

My chip was the size of a grain of sand at the very top in the "visor" area. The key is it was directly ON the crack line. So I'm f***ed.

Mazda OEM glass- $648, After mkt, $579. Insurance deductible- $500.

Good luck to ya.

This is why I carry glass coverage on my insurance--$100 deductable for it specifically. I've had to use it on a previous car, and the coverage is pretty cheap.

Insurance companies are all different. Mine doesnt have separate glass comprehensive coverage. So to change to $0 deductible is expensive. I did lower to my deductible to $250 anyway for quite less.
