Hi all, this is my first post...i'm after some of your wisdom!

I have spoken to a number of so called 'specialists', and Mazda dealers - and I still do not have a conclusive response to my query...

I had one of my two key fobs stolen (flip key and remote in one)...I am getting a new lockset from the dealer which will ensure that the stolen key blade becomes useless...

However, my question is - how do I 'guarantee' that the buttons on the stolen key fob also become ineffective?

Some people have said I need to reprogramme TWO remotes to the car to knock the stolen remote off the system...whilst many others have said that the dealer can reprogramme my existing ONE remote to the car, and the stolen one will become ineffective at this point...

I need to know for sure which it is please!

Good question... I think if you flip back a few pages you will come across a page that mentions of how many keys can be programmed until the system bumps one (or all) key(s). But yes, as I read in that page, after a certain number of programs the key(s) stops working.

He means the keyfob not necessarily the metal keyblade.

 

My 2009 owners manual says you can have up to 3 remotes programmed. I would think the Series 1 cars would be the same. So you would need to have one more to bump the old ones out. I couldn't find a clearing procedure for the remotes, only the keys.

 

Is anyone 100% sure in a response to my question above?

There seems to be massive confusion of the years of posts on this subject.

Advanced Keyless System = Credit Card Key = CC Key = Keyless remote is NOT the "remote" primarily being discussed. The AKS lets you start the car WITHOUT a physical key in the ignition. Because of this ability, programming a new one not only takes TWO functioning old ones, but takes a different procedure (see attached PDF).

Just as with the key, if you have only ONE functioning AKS card, you must get the second on programmed by the dealer.

Ok, I'm sorry I was trying not to do this for fear of getting blasted but here it goes. I got a switchblade key for my '04 and can't get it to program, the key is programmed, but the remote won't take. The FCC number is 8G8x1T..... is this even a good FCC number? And yes I know the battery works. Thanks guys.

 

Do you have four (lock, unlock, trunk, and panic) buttons in you keyless entry FOB? The Switchblade key should look like mine. Also, do you know where the fcc ID and the visteon # etched in the FOB?

 

Sorry, just got back from vacation. I just got a new key so I know the numbers are accurate. I only have one of my old remotes that is programed to the car, do I need both? I can go through the steps and "reprogram" the old one, but neither of the switch blade keys take. Now, I know the numbers are etched on the remote, are they at the part where the remote and blade separate? Those seem to be the only numbers I can find and they are nothing close to the numbers you mentioned.

You need two keys if you want to program a new key, however, only one key is needed to program the FOB's keyless entry key.

Could you post a picture of your Swithblade?

Yes, they are... But are we talking about the same Switchblade?.

 

yeah.... both of these keys have totally different numbers there which are printed on the fob, not etched, and they say "mitsubishi electronics" along the side... sounds like I got 2 cheap ebay knock offs....

 

I think they're used for the CX-SUV, try to see if your dealer can confirm that; otherwise, I hope you can receive a refund and buy this used one in eBay?

I'm going to copy myself from way back on page 8 of this thread:
I got an id KPU41788 ic 4238A-41525 from eBay and it works fine. It looks identical with 4 buttons on the front. Some of the eBay keys have the same number listed but are 3 button keys (no trunk button). I don't know if they are really the same or mislabeled.
My key continues to work perfectly; I've had it since 2007.

Hey all I have a 2004 6spd GT that I bought used in 2006 with 2 keys and two keychain type fobs (na valet for whatever reason). One FOB stopped working in 2007 some time and I just threw it in my desk and used the other one. The second one stopped working last year so I went out and bought new batteries thinking that would solve the problem. It did not. I have tried to reprogram both remotes with new batteries multiple ways and times and have not had any success. I finally broke down and bought a new key chain remote from eBay OEM MAZDA 3 REMOTE KEY KEYLESS ENTRY FOB TRANSMITTER | eBay and it is an exact match for my original remotes and is brand new. Still no luck programming the new one either.

My car gets into programming mode as signaled by the lock and unlock after pushing the door ajar button 3 times but never receives any signal when I push a FOB button twice (Ive tried every button on every remote). Im so sick of being stuck in the eighties using a key and if I accidently go to my passenger door thinking I can unlock it using my key one more time I might lose it lol.

Basically I want to know if anyone has an answer for me. Do I need to have the dealer program my FOBs? If I bought an 05 flip style FOB UNCUT MAZDA FLIP KEY SWITCHABLE OEM REMOTE FOB KPU41788 | eBay (Visteon and FCC match ones ive read work for 2004) would I have more success? Is that even the right one because the auction states “PROGRAMMING: This remote can only be programmed via dealer or locksmith, NO self programming! The key blade will also need to be cut in order for it to work for your car. If you have a single seperate key and remote you can NOT switch to this remote. Only Mazda's that came factory from the dealer with this flip key option this remote will work for!” which is contrary to what I’ve read on the forum. Sorry for the super long post I’m just at my wits end and would love to have a FOB that works

 

To answer one question; YES the switchblade FOB you bought(see post #486) will work by following the programming instructions. The 2004 FOB may only be programmed by the dealer's M-MDS(Mazda Modular Diagnostic System), I believe. That is why most opted with the switchblade instead of trying to reprogram and reprogram the 2004 OEM FOB. The keychain-type FOB for 2004 will not respond with the programming instructions for the switchblade FOB. Go over the instructions you can find in the first page of this thread and respond back once you've successfully programmed your new switchblade FOB

 

I've seen a similar question asked here before, but no answers that satisfy me were given.

I have a 2004 that I purchased last November. I have 1 working key, but the fob I was given has never worked. I replaced the battery with no success. Tester at the local auto parts store showed a weak, intermittent signal, so I chose to buy a new remote.

Both remotes are:
Visteon 41848
KPU41805
4238A-12076

When trying to program them, I follow the instructions here, and successfully get to the "Press any button on any single transmitter twice." step, but neither the old nor the new remotes cause any response when any button is pressed any number of times.

Have I missed something? Have I purchased the wrong fob? I'd prefer not to buy the flip key, since I only have one key and would need to purchase another from the dealer in order to program it.
