Hidden Bolt on HU
Hi all,
Just wondering if someone could give me the measurements for the hidden bolt that goes into the side of the CD player? Mine never had one as I think the previous owner lost it while taking it out.
I badly need to get this sorted because the rattling from my HU is driving me insane!!
Cheers!

does it really cause rattling sans bolt? interesting.. i might just put mine back...
i could measure for you if you like since mine is sitting out, but mazda part number for the bolt is 9972-00-612. might as well get the guaranteed right part for 2 bucks or whatever

Hah by any chance are you Irish? Sheehan is a very Irish name!
I don't know if it does or not but I'm trying the cheap fixes first so need this bolt!
Yeah could you measure it for me if you don't mind? I need the thread length, width and the measurement of the head all in mm. The head is most important so I know what size socket to use. I have a feeling it'll be 14mm as the majority od bolts in the 8 are either 14 or 11....

Thanks for the help lads.
I got the bolt today and put it in. Guess what?! No more rattling!!!!! Woohoooo!!
Also, it's not as awkward as a lot of people made it out to be.

I tought that the bolt was there only for safety measures (so you don't risk that the HU comes out into the cockpit for a heavy frontal impact), in fact i never placed back mine (since it's a pain to install/remove it anytime ti need to work behind the dash).

You could also think of it as another anchor point to steady the HU and hold it in place to stop rattling!
Also, I think the reason it may have been easier for me is that I live in Ireland and drive a RHD model

What size screw did you end up putting in there that fit ?
thanks
hmm interesting i took that bolt off and threw it away it pissed me off the first time i ever took my stereo apart and what i did to compensate was firmly insert the stereo back in and tighten the bottom bolts while the stereo was pressed up slightly and it has never rattled ever
