Maximum speeds in gears
Hi all. Does anyone have precise info on the maximum speeds in each of the 8's six gears at redline? I don't own one ( yet! ) but am curious. During my two test drives I've been too busy watching the tacho to notice the speed at the upchange points! Not that easy to do so in any case as the digital speedo seems to me to be a bit of a jumble when you are accelerating hard! (Tried to search on this but without luck - maybe my keywords were wrong).

I think the first three are right on, I hit 41 twice today in first, and 68 for second and 94 for third sound exactly right from memory. Have not tried 4th 5th or 6th. Really never drive in 6th unless on a road trip, put in 6th and set cruise control to 85. In my daily cummute I typically drive in 4th until around 80-85 depending on traffic.

They sound right, I have had the buzzer going, in 5th, which is relatively qiuck....
The Japanese spec cars have a limiter (138mph, if I recall)
but there is NO limiter on the US model. Someone posted that on a dyno they took it to 178mph, indicated.

There was a prior posting about this and a reference to a website with a speed in gear calculator. Here's the website:

Here's the calc it gives for 9000k
1. Accelerating to: 9000 rpms gives a speed of: 40.37 mph..
2. at 5431. rpms. Accelerating to: 9000 rpms gives a speed of: 66.91 mph..
3. at 6524. rpms. Accelerating to: 9000 rpms gives a speed of: 92.29 mph..
4. at 6494. rpms. Accelerating to: 9000 rpms gives a speed of: 127.90 mph..
5. at 7582. rpms. Accelerating to: 9000 rpms gives a speed of: 151.82 mph..
6. at 7587 rpms. Accelerating to: 9000 rpms gives a speed of: 180.09 mph..

Disclaimer .. The results of this calc is based upon the stock tire diameter reported by
bridgestone (25.7 inches). The ratio on the differential is calculated to 4.5589:1 based

4. 1.187
5. 1
6. 0.843
The calc does not use wind resistance and/or other external factors when calculating the results.

Nifty calculator. The rev limiter is above 9000, so I punched in 9200 and got the following results.
1. Accelerating to: 9200 rpms gives a speed of: 41.27 mph..
2. at 5551. rpms. Accelerating to: 9200 rpms gives a speed of: 68.39 mph..
3. at 6669. rpms. Accelerating to: 9200 rpms gives a speed of: 94.34 mph..
4. at 6638. rpms. Accelerating to: 9200 rpms gives a speed of: 130.74 mph..
5. at 7750. rpms. Accelerating to: 9200 rpms gives a speed of: 155.19 mph..
6. at 7755. rpms. Accelerating to: 9200 rpms gives a speed of: 184.09 mph..

Looking back at this calculation, it reminds me that i was certain that I had shifted into 3rd at 70mph with the rev buzzer going during my road test. Haven't done this in my own yet.

It's been posted someplace here that the Renesis has actually been tested to be somewhat reliable at 12k rpm! The following is the result gotten when 12000 is punched in to that calculator (note this clearly ignores many factors):
1. Accelerating to: 12000 rpms gives a speed of: 53.83 mph..
2. at 7241. rpms. Accelerating to: 12000 rpms gives a speed of: 89.21 mph..
3. at 8699. rpms. Accelerating to: 12000 rpms gives a speed of: 123.05 mph..
4. at 8658. rpms. Accelerating to: 12000 rpms gives a speed of: 170.53 mph..
5. at 10109. rpms. Accelerating to: 12000 rpms gives a speed of: 202.42 mph..
6. at 10116 rpms. Accelerating to: 12000 rpms gives a speed of: 240.12 mph..

Well here's me at the top of 4th gear last weekend - unfortunately the flash reflected off the spedo and I didn't have the presence of mind to look at the preview (ugh - just taking the photo was ridiculous enough).
Anyhow - I think the speedo was reading something like 131...
