BS Wheel options

I've been doing some research this week. Have I missed any options

BS Wheels

OEM 18x8 50mm 22#? $375 new

There are a few choices on the old style MazdaSpeed wheel.
Gold 5 spoke 16.9 lbs $610ea retail

I think Clyde is planning to sell a set of 18 x 8 x 44mm offset Kodiak 3 pc wheels he got from me last year, 16.5 lbs each

Why are you listing wheels that are not BS legal in a thread about BS wheel options?

The Weds SA-70 18X8 50mm is 18.8 lbs and $339.

Not BS legal... the 18X8 5-114.3 only comes in a 33 or 38mm offset.

Stock class requires stock offset (50mm) +/- 1/4" (6.35mm). So anything down to 44mm will work. You wouldn't want anything greater than 50mm as that's going in the wrong direction (reducing track width).

If you think you might be serious about running autox, even as a remote possibility, make sure and read the rules before making major upgrade purchases for you vehicle. They can be found here:

It only takes a few minutes to do so and can save you lots of money.

F/R track variation can work to your advantage, depending on the overall balance of the car and the limitations of the rules

whether you listen isn't relevant ...

Jeez, aftermarket wheels are expensive. We should just mandate 17x8's and Falkens for everyone.

I ran quite a different setup and had no balance issues. Reread the conditional response in my previous reply.

I guess now that you scored a decent Nats finish your convinced you've conquered the world, back at ya' ...

Hardly, but if you're telling me that a car with near 50/50 weight distribution and good camber curves on both ends needs to resort to F/R track variation in order to run well, then I'd say you've been dipping back into you're 800lb spring stash again.

It looks like you can get the Mazdaspeed wheels for $516/ea. Not exactly a bargain, but still almost $100 under Mazda's price. Also, a few of the listings for the rims have the weight at 16.0lbs, regardless as to finish, vs. Mazda's claim of 16.98 for gold and 17.64 for grey. I'm not sure I understand how a gold center rim can weigh 3/4lbs. less than a grey center rim, per the Mazda USA web site...

So what is the estimated time gain on a 60 second course with, lets say, a 17lb wheel vs. the OEM? I have an idea, just want to see what you guys say.

Do you realize how many variables exist in a single autox run? Even if you can run the exact same time on the same course it's extremely unlikely that you actually made an identical run. There's really no good way to say. Either you run the fastest time or you don't. It doesn't even mean you were the best driver or had the best car. It only means that you went faster than someone else.

Lighter wheels potentially offer a quicker time than heavy wheels. In reality, it just depends.

Ran across another issue to worry about. Found some almost exactly right wheels (even good looking, cheep and a little lighter) but they have too small of a hub centric. Anybody had a machine shop recut a hubcentric for a larger diameter?

Lighter should be faster (little). However I thought my my miata that heavy front wheels were better for times because the extra rotational force cut the inside front lockup a lot.

Hahaha, ya Ive autox'ed a little myself, thanks. And I said estimated, not exact. Im asking the question because if everyone is so gung ho on getting the lightest wheel out there, they must have an idea of what kind of time they are saving. Otherwise why buy it?

I havent autox'ed the 8 but in my 2700lb, 145hp, STS car a 7lb loss per corner was worth maybe .3-.5 seconds on a 40 second course although yes, that could never truly be proven.
