Incorrect if you look closely it tappers down to stock size where the racepipe meats the stock header (red circle). As for the blue circle I can't tell b/c it looks as if they photoshoped off the flange mount. Back by where the Y bend is for the mufflers it looks like 2.5 inch pipe but thats probably just perspective, still not a true 3" because of that tapper at the stock header.

Its not just the pipe sizing, but the flow capability. The mufflers could be more restrictive, or the bends might not be tapered as nice.

I am a little concerned though. Adrian said he's pushing 10psi without a boost controller. I don't want to be running 10psi all the time. I'm not confident yet that the Renesis will handle that. I'd like to be able to back it off to 7psi for everyday driving.

Update: I was able to log 2 runs today. This time I did WOT in 2nd gear until redline, WOT thru 3rd until redline, and WOT in 4th gear up to 7.5k rpms (going to fast by then).

The results for 2nd and 3rd gear was a max of 8psi (steady, no dropping off to 6psi). 4th gear had a max of 9-10psi (up to 7.5k rpms, psi didn't drop either). Not sure why the psi goes up in 4th gear. Again, this was with my boost controller off.

My first post says it was in 3rd gear (the 10psi holding run), but I may have been wrong and actually in 4th gear.

I'll post the datalog and boost video in the morning.

Next on my list is to increase the boost using the boost controller to 10psi and see if it falls off at high rpms (mainly for 2nd and 3rd gear).

I switched the vacuum line to the throttle body port and the boost signal is VERY steady, no fluttering at all. I guess the air in the intake manifold has too much turbulence from the ports opening/closing. Makes sense to connect the hose at the throttle body to get a clean signal.

Placing a small restrictor in the line to the boost gauge will smooth the reading. This can be a common problem on a rotary engine depending on the placement of the boost signal line. The engine produces a choppy vacuum signal so the restrictor will tend to smooth it.

CATless Midpipe

I want to replace my CAT, what is the best midpipe. I live in Illinois, so no inspections?

there are inspections in Illinois...ODB II only so fooling the computer is key

see here: http://www.epa.state.il.us/air/vim/g..._overview.html

Here in Minnesota however there are no inspections whasoever...in fact I know a couple guys who have 3 rotors in their RX-7 and one of them use a straight pipe and both take it on the street...if it wasn't for the silencer he installs for daily driving you could hear it all over town

Here's the boost video . Datalog and screenshots below.

The defi boost gauge clearly shows it increases up to 10psi in 4th, but the Interceptor log only went up to 8psi in 4th (except for one data point that was 9psi).
Looks like either the defi gauge is not reading right, the interceptor boost sensor isn't reading right or isn't getting the full signal. I'll check for kinks in the hose. not sure why the discrepancy between the two boost readings.

There is a slight variation in the boost that my interceptor sees, and the boost that my gauge/boost controller sees. I just thought it was me since i have them connected to different vacuum sources.

Both the gauge and interceptor are connected at the same port (behind throttlebody). Also have my E-01 and BOV connected there too. Lots of 3-way connectors.

I increased the boost to 10psi and it still drops down in high rpms . Doesn't seem like it drops down as much though (looks like 8psi).

I just put in the silencers on the tips and they work very well. Big difference in sound. I tried one WOT run in 4th gear and it doesn't go up to 10psi with them in. I did notice a small decrease in power with the silencers in.

^^^ Ryan, can't wait to see your results. I still haven't decided whether or not to go with it, but your experience and feedback may change that.

Same here. How difficult would it be to put different tips on it though? That is the only thing I don't like about the exhaust.
