Reliable 1-Way Check Valve for Greddy Boost Leak

Hey guys!

I've sourced out a vendor that distributes a decent quality one-way Kynar check valve that sells for no more than $3.00 each. The shape is similar to that from Mazsport. The one way check valve has a 3/8 opening on both sides. The valves will work with vacuum between 2 and 29 in. Hg. and pressures from 1 psi up to 150psi. The engineer also told me as long as the check valve does not make direct contact with the rotary engine the valve will not comprimise.

If anyone is interested I would like to start a group buy. I need to order at least 20 (minimum order from vendor). Also the method goes as follows: 1) I get the valves shipped in a box to my office (business shipping is cheaper). 2) Find out how many people ordered and goto Staples for insulated/padded envelops since the distributor is not going to drop ship. 3) Ship out the valves and provide USPS tracking numbers and insurance (if applicable).

Again the valves will be no more than $3.00 and the rest depends on the packaging and shipping to your door.

So who's interested?

I found a valve at pepboys that works perfectly and is a direct fit for around that amount. I had to try a bunch to find it, but I'll see if I can post a picture of it next weekend when I have access to my car.

Rkostolni;

The one I found at my neighborhood Pepboys, Napa, Kragen's, and Autozone has two different sized openings. I think one end was 1/4 and the other was smaller. The one I sourced was 3/8" from both sides. But please share.

Myne is 3/8" on both sides. I will post some pics next time I go home to finish up my car. Should be this weekend as long as I get my parts in time.

This is the check valve I am finding at the LA regional auto parts stores. I was wondering if you had a chance to get a Pep Boy's part number and picture?

Sorry, I completely forgot. I'll make sure to do it this weekend. I tried that check valve, it works, but I was worried that it was too restrictive. So I tossed it.

This picture shows the check valve on the marked white hose.Apiece of hose needs to be added betwween the checkvalve and your source of clean atmospheric air.To determine which line needs the check valve,just apply a vacuum to the white marked hose and the yellow marked hose -you want the hose which will NOT hold a vacuum.This because there are check valves built into the oil injectors.The jet air nozzles do not.
The other picture shows where you hook up the e-manage pressure sensor.Note sensor is mounted vertically with pressure line to bottom.

To throw in my 2 cents from the RX-7 world...

Those Help! section check valves (as shown above) fail in record time. Avoid.

The '93-95 RX-7 twin turbo has 4 check valves in the vacuum lines for the sequential turbo control system. The Mazda parts frequently fail - either break in half from being baked in the heat, or the diaphragm inside vulcanizes in the open position, allowing air to travel both ways. I sell check valves with Kynar bodies and Viton diaphrams for the 3rd gen, and they hold up GREAT. If the original poster will be selling proper sized ones, that's a great way to go.

Since Rkostolni does not have time to post the Pep Boys' check valve I guess I'm going to open up the group buy.

I'm just trying to get a consensus on how many are going to purchase and commit so I can order a large quantity since the manufacturer won't drop ship and have the valves sent to me in a box. That way I'll send USPS priority and disperse. I'm not trying to make a profit I'm just trying to help the people with the kit on the forum (including me).

I'm really sorry V300. I've been at work until 9:00p everynight this week. I've just been really busy. I don't have the part#, but I will take a picture of the valve for you tonight. I promise. I really wouldn't go and buy a huge amount of valves without testing one. Just because the inlet and outlet sizes are correct, the cracking pressure and seating flow might not be.

v300,
you should poll to gauge interest before investing your time on this.. I'd be willing to guess that you'd have less than 5 people sign-up. There aren't all that many GReddy owners to begin with, and most of us already have a solution in place.

Here you go. This valve works great. I found it at Pep-boys, for less than $5.00.

Two quick questions about this:

1) Why is a check valve needed?

2) Can't the pressure sensor be installed off one of the nipples on the left side of the engine (passenger side)?

Hey Bubba;

1) Quoting Mazda Maniac quoting an Ebay ad: "Install this one way check valve in the tubes attached to the air intake duct on the GReddy Turbo Kit. This will eliminate boost bypass (air bleed tube) and a give your RX8 a slight increase in power!"

2) If you have the GReddy kit, I believe it's the tube that has a factory white stripe. I think the nipple you are talking about is one of the fixes Mazdamaniac and MadDog addresed in the definitive GReddy fixes write up where you should tap a nipple in the compressed air to intercooler pipe. By the way, if you have an e-01 the boost curves dont seem as jagged as before.

Hey rkostolni;

Thanks for taking your time to remove the part and take the picture. I was under the impression the part would have been in plastic than brass (?). I guess I'll hit up Pep Boys and give it a test. Thanks again.

Hey MadDog;

Yeah you're right. I was just taking initiative and thanks for all your help! If it works it works and if it doesn't... then back to the drawing boards. :D
