Ive been debating whether I should get 19' chrome rims or 19' Black Gloss Rims (w/ the Chrome outline Lip) . And I'm also questioning whether 20's would look too outrageous on an rx8, if not can u still drop the car w/ 20's on it? I have a Black Rx8 Gt with Red/Black interior. When i get the wheels i plan on putting the red brake calipers. Ive heard ppl tell me black on black would look good but Ive also heard chrome rims would look good too. So what do you guys think would look better on my car.....LOOKWISE not from the racing perspective. Im not worried about which wheels would be heavier on my car. ANy help would be appreciated.

 

Well--I think that the painted rims are the in style right now; gaudy chrome designs are played out; but chrome never will go out of style, as long as its taste full. The black rims with the chrome look looks excellent on black RX8s.

Black rims look more (tuner-ish), chrome rims look more (BLING BLING-ish). It depends on what statment you are trying to make about yourself.
Chrome rims generally need more attention 'cuz they stick out like a sore thumb when ther're dirty, and they could peel. I like the black rims 'cuz they "hide" the brake dust the best.

^yea i just saw the 20's they really raise the car much higher. Id rather just stick w/ the 19's. Btw Chrism your car looks tight.

 

I have a Blue 8, and have been hunting for the right chrome rims for the past few months. I think if you find the right style, it should complement the Rx8 rather then take away from it. Most import tuners are into painted rims, but every other type of show car from classics, to hotrods, to suv's sport chrome. I am still riding the fence on wether to get chrome or bronze.......but I am leaning towards chrome. Just gotta find the right style and offset.

chrome looks good with anything and is easier to keep clean, but it does have to be tasteful as well

 

believe me, having gone thourgh both, with factory springs, the 19" actually looked higher than the 20"...
black centre with polished lip would look awesome on a black car

 

I have 19" chromes on my car & I get complemented all the time on them. 20" might be a bit much, but if you want the big rims on your car go for it. The whole rim as the same color as the car is en vogue right now, but that fad might come & go faster than spinners. Chrome rims have been around for a long time, and will always be around for a long time. Chrome looks real nice with dark color cars (I have titanium grey). Set's it off quite nicely.

 

i think black rims are just a phase just as how chrome rims was a phase and is getting played out right now.

the black rims arent tuner scene AT ALL, but more balla status wheels. if i had to choose between chrome and black... i would get black

 

Not a big fan of chrome. Just never looked right on a sports car imo. Get black!

chrome will never be played out, they've had chrome wheels since the 50's, here is a thread with some big **** pics of mine. painted wheels come and go, chrome has never gone and is timeless. As mentioned before it's all in the style you choose, regardless of finish.

Thanks for the opinions you guys. ^^^Man those are some nice wheels u got, as for style even if i were to get chrome or black wheels im just looking for something simple like how your chrome rims look.... i dont want my car looking ghetto just simple (sorry if i dont make sense I cant think of a better explanation but just simple)

 

I'm probably alone on this, but... I absolutely H-A-T-E black wheels. They look cheap. The first thought that always comes to my mind (regardless of wheel style or size) is "Why are they riding on spare wheels?". Blech...

Go for polished. Won't chip like chrome, and has a nice, clean sheen to it. It's what I'll be doing with my stock set once I get the cash.

 

20" chrome rims on the 8??? Sounds extremely heavy. And I've always thought 20's looked funny on the 8.

I know someone mentioned polished, but if you don't want to spend hours upon hours polishing them with diaper cloth to keep them looking clean then I'd still go for a clean set of chrome wheels instead. There are a lot of styles out there similar to mine, just takes some time to find them. I really don't care for black as they tend to get buried under the car, then from a distance they look like painted stockers or something. Unless of course you spend the $$$ and get some powdercoated CCWs or HREs. Don't forget it's your car so get what makes you happy, not what makes everyone else happy

 

I am running 18" Chrome wheels on my Silver RX8. Looks great!
Only problem is keeping them clean.
