So they completely redesigned the presilencers just for this application! Awesome.

Although that does now mean that we have to wait for them to get the new presilencers and then to make the actual midpipe.

I'll see how long I can hold out!

Great news however!

 

I'd rather have RB take their time. I want a quality product and thats what I expect from RB. So i will patiently wait for them finished product.

 

I just hope my stock cat lives long enough to see that day without going to complete crap! With a leaned out A/F ratio.. I've been giving it hell.

 

No. He said they had already redesigned them to allow them to be more circular which should allow for clearance w/o spacers. But they're waiting on the silencers to be in stock before they can move on this application.

A few months probably means you won't be able to get this until the Summer assuming they don't have any issues with the redesigned silencers, other projects, a lack of funding, and that we don't slide into a full blown depression and start hiding cash under our beds.

Very happy that there will likely be a replacement next year for the DR - and that the replacement will hopefully be significantly improved over the MS in terms of engineering. Whether or not it delivers the same reduction in noise will be interesting to see.

Still waiting for a car in Miami so we can do the DR pipe. We can use any resonator you guys want. I prefer the magnaflo because they sound really good but it doesnt matter.

I may ditch my own mazsport DR midpipe for this one, so I can reinstall my braces again properly.

 

Wow, I can't believe I just now found this thread. I have the Racing Beat midpipe and exhaust now, but I will definitely consider replacing the midpipe with this if the price is right I think it would be awesome if RB created some maps for their hardware on the Cobb AP as well, hint hint...

 

I'm getting my AP soon. Now all thats left for my performance bolt-ons...is the RB DR MP! February is soo far away...

It's called the RB flash. You don't need a different flash for a (properly designed) intake, or exhaust BTW.

 

Well, I know about the PCM re-flash where you send in your car's computer but that doesn't account for running with the straight mid-pipe which I can get away with here because we don't have to test for emissions. Also, I bought a Cobb AccessPort so that I can actually see all of the info coming out of the PCM and so I could install maps for more specific things like the mid-pipe, maybe turbo someday? Anyway, I figured since RB has already done lots of testing with their own parts and that's the parts I have installed, maybe they could sell a locked version of a map like MazdaManiac does for a lot less money than the re-flash since I don't need to take out the PCM and ship to them, they ship it back etc, etc... I don't know if it would require me data-logging my car or not since I have all RB parts (ramair, intake, midpipe, exhaust) Maybe they could sponsor me since I have all their parts on my car

 

^What I was trying to say, is that none of the modifications they sell require any sort of a reflash to take advantage of.

Gross Oversimplification Time:
The only things that matter for a good NA PCM tune are the MAF reading, the wide band reading, and the AFR targets you have setup in your tune. The RB intake will not require a new MAF calibration. The RB header locates the wide band in a place that will still provide accurate readings. All of their other parts (duct, race pipe, exhaust) have no chance of affecting the tune. If you flow more air because of the modifications you've made, the MAF will see the increased flow and the PCM will inject more fuel in order to hit the desired AFR target defined in the flash. No change required.

 

I really don't know tuning at all, but I think my afr's are kinda high BECAUSE of the mid-pipe. It averages around 14, shouldn't the afr be a little closer to 10 average?
BTW, don't flame me if I'm wrong, I'm trying to learn with every post I make Doesn't less back pressure force it to run a little too rich without re-tuning a little? I know that it smells a lot more without the cat, some of that to be expected, but I believe it's running more fuel than it needs also. Anybody feel free to step in and correct me because like I said, I don't know this stuff and I'm just trying to learn

 

^No, 10 is way too rich. Generally 14-15 for light throttle/load is where you want to be, and high 12's to high 13's under heavy load if you're naturally aspirated. A race pipe should have no effect on your AFR.

 

OK, cool, I'm good for now because it's running about that. I still get the CEL and I can reset it, but it comes back on soon anyway. I was backwards on the AFR too, I though lower numbers were lean and higher was rich. See, I wasn't kidding when I said I have no clue It's good to learn though. I have tuning software from COBB but I haven't even installed it to look at what's involved. I don't want to mess with any of it until I learn what everything does. Are there any good books out there about that kind of stuff?

nope, all I know is the ETA is set for Feb 09. If it's on their website, I'm sure it's serious.
