8000 RPM hesitation?

Hello All,

I have looked around and can't seem to find an 100% answer to my question - so forgive me if this is n00b-ish in nature.

When I am out for a sprinted drive and peg the tach past 8000 RPM the engine feels like its entering into another profile and there is a slight hesitation or bog to the engine. It happens going both ways on the tach. I can't seem to figure it out.

I did read that if you purchased the RB flash they program it to use a different fuel mixture than the OEM since the OEM switches to a very high gas mix. Is this what I am noticing? Do any of you notice this too?

Oh and before someone else posts it...

The VDI valve begins to open at 7250rpm, but that valve isn't known to give us problems or stick like the others.
Doesn't mean the solenoid or the wiring connection isn't bad though.

Another thing to consider is the catalytic converter.
When you start noticing power loss at higher RPMs, the cat is a possible suspect.

Hesitation is the wrong word.

Its just seems like it switches to a new ECU map or something and then the engine sounds change to a more aggressive sound. The best way to describe it: its like if your stereo was at 5 and you turned it to 8 real quick. I have to drive up to the mountains tomorrow for a job so I will see if I can get a better read or even a video of it.

Just wondering if I should get it looked at.

My 2009 does the same thing. I think it is just the factory tune.

I dont rev my RX8 that high
doesnt it have a rev limiter?
or is going into the 9000 limit normal?
I also remember reading something... that at different 'temps?' that the engine rev limits change?

So I take it your car is a series 1. You have the RB flash, correct?

Do you have an automatic or a manual?

Autos can only get up to 7500, while manuals can rev up to 9k.

BC.

Agree that does sound like rev limiter. I rarely hit that when pulling onto the road from work.
