RX-8 Theft

I searched...

I am curious to everyones thoughts and opinions on this subject. Recently I have acquired my friends 94 Integra GSR with a B18C5 (99' JDM Type-R) engine and it's basically been converted to an ITR. Minus the 5 lugs which way back when seemed like a waste to us. I have it because he now lives in NYC and owning a car in Manhattan isn't practical. It is become my rebuild project and will turn into a track car in the future.

After going back to my old school site, www.honda-tech.com, I came across a stolen and theft thread. Long story short these kids are pulling injector plugs, fuses, using a Club!, wired kill switches to gas pump, and other things that I consider over the top. Crazyness...

Point in post is do we see that much in the RX-8 world? I understand that Hondas are some of the higher statistical auto theft targets in the US but what about us?

Other thought in my mind is that I have an R3 and everyone wants my wheels. Other than the wheel locks I have on it, what else should I do? I had two types of wheel locks in addition the generic keyed Gorilla Spline drive lugs on my old Civic. I guess I should look into something else for my 8.

With the R3 and it's keyless key fob, how annoying would it be to have an aftermarket alarm? I love the fact that I don't have a cumbersome keyring in my pocket and cringe at going back to that with an aftermarket alarm.
What has everyone else done if anything?

Thank you for that fantastic and informative link but you missed a few key points to my post.

Thanks for the jackass attempt at being cool. Did you take the time to read through the thread your fancy tool landed you at?
You have a blessed day now, hear?! Back to the S1 area for you...

Did you read any of the posts that his link found. There is a lot of good info in them. Check it out before you bash on someone serving you search results with a silver spoon. And FYI, the keycard was available starting in 06 for the 8, so for all you know, his 07 may have one. So his S1 knowledge applies here.

hehe, coffee and a pressing term paper due in three hours makes me a bit grumpy. Perhaps I should rephrase my thanks for his effort...

Allow me to bullet this for you in relation to what I am looking for:

- Theft experiences and not only related to car audio.

- Alternative measures people in this forum have done to protect their investments

- Known easy work around for thieves due to 8's design (SII please unless transferable)

- Not really looking for an alarm/noise maker. Even I know how to get around that. . . Not that I would of course but just for measure.

RX8 theft is pretty much non existent. In all of my years here I have only heard of one or two 8's being stolen. the only ones who have had their cars really broken into were because they had stuff in view that soemone wanted like a double din or ipod, etc.

I too come from the Honda world and had my Turbo Civic stolen once and broken in too three or four times. When I got out of the Honda game 8 years ago it wasn't even that bad. Now it is crazy. An employee of mine has a clean GSR and he had had it broken into many times and the only thing that keeps it from getting stolen is a quick disconnect for the battery and a removable steering wheel. He also has a five lug conversion and has a combination of different sets of locks on his wheels.

But if they really want it, they will get it. Years back my buddy had the built Type R motor cut out of his hatch with a plasma cutter. They towed it to an industrial lot and cut the engine out of the car.

But of course, a garage and a Glock are a pretty good deterrent to keep theives away from my Volks

Just curiosity... What is the range on the keyless entry?

I remember seeing on Top Gear (wanna say Season 12, the episode where they were driving muscle cars). Hammond was in a challenger with keyless entry and start. Hammond was sitting by the window and Clarkson was able to go outside, get in his car, and start it because they key was in close enough proximity. Not the best security measure haha...

dont forget the rx8 owner who posted his 8 stolen from a mall parking lot, only to find out he dropped his keys [im guessing while putting them in the pocket] and someone took it out for a quick joy rode

for a car to be worth stealing it has to have a large enough aftermarket replacement need, the 8's numbers are low enough to make stealing others cars more cost effective for a thief.

No one is going to steal a stock 8 for anything more then a joy ride. Now throw on some aftermarket rims, new HU, high dollar personal items in view... now it might make sense to someone just walking by. In this day and age though, someone stealing a whole car already knows what kind of car he needs and is going to find THAT car.

One of the problems with stealing our cars lays in the coded keys.

I think some of the only ones to be stolen were car-jacked.
