Cool Water pump replaced at 11,000 miles

Anyone else having water pump problems? I have mine in the shop now waiting for a new water pump, it should be ready tomorrow.

It started as a typical water pump going bad, slight coolant leaks found on the garage floor, disappeared for a few day, then returned.

Other than routine maintenance and the TSB's the only other problem I have had was frayed engine accessory belts at about 2,000 miles. Makes me wonder if they overtightened the new belts when the installed them and stressed the shaft.

Hopefully this is not going to be a problem area for the 8's and I do not recall any water pump issues with the RX-7's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember there were people having the same problem with coolant leak, but had the whole engine replaced.

True..but the coolant was coming from between the housings

Not from the water pump.

I would bet anything that the two issues are related...

Well my 8 was returned to me with a new water pump. They said that there was a stain at the shaft which indicated that it was definately the water pump leaking and not another (worse) problem.

The dealership has also said they only knew of one other water pump going bad and did not know of a "problem" with them in general. They additionally said that the RX-8's seem to be extremely trouble free, especially since it is a new model.

Mine was built in August of 2003 and I appreciate the link to the other thread.

Thanks I'll post if there are any further problems.

I had my water pump replaced a couple months ago. I think I was at around 13000 miles or so when it happened.

EDIT: Here's the thread I started:
