So, when my car is idling, the RPMs will bounce between 1k and 750 and kinda sound like the engine is going to sputter and die, but never does. Also, under gentle acceleration, all is well, but if I try to accelerate hard, it will misfire until I back off, then it will correct itself and run smooth. CEL code says it's a chamber 2 misfire.
Does this sound like one of my coils, wires, or plugs has gone bad, or is it something worse?

Have you read the misfire thread yet? Link is in my sig if not. Lots of things it could be, but ignition is always a likely culprit if it is where older than ~10,000 miles.

Yes, sir, I have indeed read it, but I was curious if my symptoms offered any clues as to the culprit component. Plugs will be getting changed with the next paycheck.

Need Help.
04 rx8 with automatic

have changed plugs, coils , and wires. Will start cold, once temp guage gets half way it dies and has to cool off to restart. Have replaced anti knock sensor, checked fuel pump and Is pumping at 50plus lbs of pressure. Eveytime I clear the check engine light codes I get a different set of codes. First started as a cylinder 2 misfire, then ssv valve, then p 0506 . Had dealer check compression, front reads 6.5, 6.8, 6.6 . rear reads 7.2,7.4,7.6 . have cleaned the crank sensor and maf sensor. not sure how to check for vacuum leak and what proper reader on a guage shoulde be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is the 3rd engine from the dealer and has 40k on it. But is now out of warranty.

Hi, only bought my rx8 last week, since then its been a very bad purchase for me, its been in the garage ever since, Engine Missfire, random misfire, control manuel communication bus off, can on cluster detected failure, cylinder 2 misfire detected.. i have got brand new spark plugs, coils, wires but still the car dosnt seam to be working.. the mechanic says theres an engine problem. its still misfiring does anyone know what i can do?

I have a weird situation. My car has 45k Miles. Recently, the motor isn't willing to rev like before and sputters a little in the lower rpm range(up to 2.5k rpm). No CEL. No Overheat. Could it be the coils failing? Any pointers will be great. Thank you.

I had very old (7 years old) coils and they were missing firing in high rpms. There were no problems in moderate rpms.

Help needed please.. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum or has been answered before. I have a 2004 rx8, Mt, 55000 miles and there a loud knocking noise coming from the engine, I have recently changed coils and leads and plugs. I have made sure all connections are tight. While I had the air box out I noticed oil soot in the butterfly intake (think that's what it's called). And while I was underneath I noticed a lot of oil on the bar going from wheel to wheel and speckles of oil blowing backward to the rear of the car. It smokes a bit on startup for a few minutes. I'm going to replace the cat but just need some advice as to weather or not it'll be worth doing or is a new engine looking likely. Please have a look at the attachment for a video to noise.
