Day #21 without my 8...getting the shakes

I'm looking for a bit of advice on how to go about doing this... I have had little time in the past few days to work on my 8 and this week is starting to look like my best bet in getting her up and running. My only problem is I have all the intakes off the car but I still can't reach the fuel rails on the four secondary injectors on the left side of the engine to check the seals.

I found the the process of getting the UIM off was a pain in the A** because I could not get to the two screws under the thing without taking off two of my coils *deep sigh* moving right along... I got to this point and when I finally got everything off I was not sure on where to go next... do I have to take off the alternator to get to the fuel rail? As I mentioned before I am new to this and still learning... I checked out a few posts via google search but nothing is popping up on a systematic approach on "how" to get to the fuel rail without taking out the entire engine itself and that's just not doable for me at this point in my life.

I am lucky to have a second car to drive in the mean time, but I really miss my 8 badly and I want to drive her so bad... If someone could just point me in the right direction on what I need to take off to get to the fuel injectors to reseal them I would be forever in your debt.

As payment, If someone could help me fix this problem I will post A video of her when she is 100% :-)

I've never had to pull coils to reach the UIM bolts. I just reach down where the oil dip stick is with a long socket extension.

you don't need to pull the alternator, but if it makes things easier do it. you won't hurt anything. just take good pictures and put bolts back in their place as you remove things.

First thing is use a label makes are mark all of your injector wires. Don't rely on the position of them or a wire color chart. I've fought miss wired injectors for months and found people on here who have dealt with it for over a year.

I beleive in your picture you are pointing to the short lower or primary fuel rail. you have to remove the upper fuel rail first. There are two bolts on the left(aluminium lower intake manifold that have to be removed. Then you can not pull it really easily. You will have to disconnect both fuel hoses. (be very careful they can become a source of leaks) you should probably replace them.

Then you have a valve just above the long fuel rail. it has a vacuum actuator and 2 bolts. you have to un blot that valve and rotate the whole thing up so the actuator is out of your way. Then you can gently pull out the upper fuel rail.

With that pulled you just unblot the two bolts for the lower rail and pull it.

Thanks for the reply... I am going to begin work in this project sometime this week and Ill be posting pics of my progress. Thanks for the systematic instructions as well... its really hard to understand some of the diagrams I have seen in the workshop manuals.
