it's been a long while since ive logged in onto the is forum. i used the search alot when i first bought my RX8(2004). I have over 100K miles and I have never replaced the coils or the catalytic converter. I drive the **** out of it between Austin and Houston, Tx. I will admit, just recenctly started noticing the "loss of power" issue everyone else seems to have. I do my own oil changes every 3 to 4K and have chance my plugs several times. So my question is: How many miles do you have on your Rx8's? Have I missed something?

Brujo: it must be your magical witch powers or something that made the coils last that long. I've seen VERY few owners report their coils going that long. Bravo my good man.

I am about to hit 60,000 on my '05, I've replaced the coils on 3 different ocassions. On one ocassions I was seeing a definite loss of power, the other two times were simply preventative.
I've got the BHR ignition kit now and I've had no issues. I'm pretty certain I won't be replacing a coil ANY time soon.

funny,

my oem coils made it to 72k miles. and i replaced them just because. and it did not change a thing..

i tossed them away, and i wish i still had them..

and the more odd thing is, it is not like it is cool down here..

god no.

it has been abused a lot..

but i use my special helmet in my car..

if that helps..

really 110k miles. the real stuff that happened. was one mop. one 02 sensor. it was related to the 02 sensor.

the rest has been nothing, unless something was being tested. and you cant fault the car for that..

beers

However if your arm hurts all the way up to your shoulder and your hair is now curly and the screw driver went flying your coil is probably OK.
This is brilliant! I'm going to try this now.

but you know the moment he swaps in new coils everything will go wrong =P everything is high mileage but functioning in harmony with each other. as soon as one gets replaced, everybody else will cry foul and wants to get replace and quits on you, according to cartalk logic

just kidding =P 100k might be a good time to have them replaced if not just for the heck of it

Just asking advice. Is there any thnig else I should be paying attention to? I'd like to get another 100K.

Jedi54 , did a quick search for the BHR kit you mention. Can i order online? BTW, i do practice naugalism, but that had nothing to do with the coils lasting that long; pretty sure of it.

the easiest way to identify coil problems is at start up when the engine is cold. if you hear a chirp ( sounds like an annoying bird) then you have a coil problem. no its not the belts as many of your mechanics will say, its your coils i had this issue thinking it was the belts but indeed its you fried coil(s)

care to elaborat how a "chirp" is acoils since it's just voltage going though coils of wire and being induced into a different coil of wire when the ground is taken away...don't see what's in there that could make a noise it's just wires....

^good chance it is a coil but they won't make noise...the only true way to test a coil is with an OHM Meter.....

^I believe ya on that one but I was just stating the "test procedure".....I'm not aware of their specs off hand for coil resistance or side clearances but you for sure would know the prob with their specs...so i'll take ur word for it..
