Horn/Steering Wheel Control Problems

I tried doing a search, but most searches either indicated an issue with the radio (still possible) or a fuse.

Basically nothing works on my steering wheel. No horn, no volume, no radio control, no cruise control, nothing. I've pulled and checked all of my fuses. Twice. Nothing is blown and they are all the correct rating.

Now I did recently swapped out the engine (more like removed the engine, got it rebuilt and and re-installed it). I've had my problems since the engine work. I'm assuming I probably touched something or messed with something to cause my problems?

While the engine was out, my friend had the bright idea of grabbing the steering wheel and spinning it non stopped...must have been really bored. Could this have damaged anything related?

Thanks for any input!

(Not sure if it's related but I do have the factory radio, and everything on there works fine)

Pull off the steering wheel covers and check for loose or disconnected plugs. There are like 7 of them under there. Recommend you disconnect the battery first, in case you need to disconnect the airbag connector. Don't want it blowing up in your face.

Solution

In case anyone came by this thread with the same problems.

If everything works in the car, ie radio, lights, turn signals, windshield wiper, etc. but the steering wheel controls don't, such as radio controls, cruise control, horn, and you have an air bag light then check your clock spring or the connections to it.

The clock spring is the connection between the wiring harness to the steering wheel, situated right behind the steering wheel. It allows you to turn the steering wheel around and still have the wires connected.

Not sure if this is common sense, but I swear there should be a warning somewhere stating you shouldn't turn the steering wheel more than 2 1/2 turns that's immediately visible! Basically by spinning the steering wheel several times my friend snapped all the wires inside the clock spring lol

BTW this part comes in from Mazmart around $180

Time to go junk yard diving!

I have the same problem and got a clock spring off eBay for $50 I think. I just need to install it.
