Headunit freaks out and scrambles!

Hi guys, anyone else have this happen to them? If so does anyone know the cause and/or solution?

Basically what happens is when I start my car on my way home from work (usually late afternoon) my headunit display scrambles and goes all crazy. I snapped a picture to kind of show an example.

This started 3 days ago and honestly I feel like it has something to do with the excessive heat wave which has started here in Vegas. Summer weather is here and when I'm at work, my car is uncovered with no window tint so it gets really hot inside the car. After about 5 mins of AC and driving, everything goes back to normal. Today my HVAC even freaked out a little.

It's strange because this also started happening right after I installed my Grom ipod adapter, but it may also be coincidence since the day I installed it was the day before it jumped from average 80degrees to 100 degrees during the day.

Thoughts?

do you still have Bumper -bumper warranty? I had that happen on my last rx8 and it ended up being the whole motherboard for the headunit. The dealer replaced my 2004 one with a 2006 headunit and it was fine after that,

I think there are contact points on the actuall black part of the faceplate that sometimes dont make full contact. Mine does the exact same thing sometimes. Push the halfmoon portion or any other piano black portion in and see if it starts changing back mine freaks out and i push on it in various spots and it stops I have had my headunit out once or twice.

Craaaap. LOL no bumper to bumper since its and 05... Unless it is covered longer than I think?

I will try the tapping and pressing in. It's so weird because it doesn't happen when the car hasn't been sitting in the heat!

Since you had the H/U out for your iPod adapter... I would go back and verify all the connectors are fully seated and not loose.

I will check that out. Having left the "magic bolt" off wouldn't have anything to do with the connection or this problem would it?

No.
Most people leave their "hidden bolt" out... including myself.

Update, so I haven't taken the radio back out to check connections, but when it scrambled on me again, I tried RX8YA's advice and pushed in on the half moon plate. Voila, it went back to normal. It's too hot outside right now in Vegas to even think of getting in my car without ac since my garage is occupied by my kitchen cabinet refacing project, so I wonder which connection might have come loose to cause this...

I have the exact same problem with mine. It always scrambles when the interior of the car is hot but will sometimes scramble when it is not. The I brought it to the dealer 3 times and each time they replaced something different. The last time they said that they noticed the main circuit board was "cracked". I would still like to know how to fix this circuit board. I moved overseas with my RX before it was fixed and they don't have any Mazda dealers where I am at.

So after driving around the city for about 50 miles today in the Vegas heat, the head unit finally crapped out it seems! Still haven't gotten around to removing the radio and checking connections. It seems so annoying and there must be an easy fix...

Oh and pushing in the half moon stopped working! Ay caramba

Note to all. Unplugging and plugging back in the wire from the display unit reset it and fixed the issue.
