2nd gear, sulpur smell from exhaust & steering wheel sound problems

hey guys, i bought a used 05 rx8 2 months ago. lately i been having problems with this car,

1. Driving it normally, i always hear this weird sound coming from my 2nd gear every time i rev it. all the other gears are fine no sound at all. recently change my transmission oil and diff oil to redline and still no affect what so ever.

2. Every time i turn the car on from a cold start, i begin to smell this weird sulfur smell from my exhaust, after the engine is warmed up the smell goes away. its an aftermarket exhaust that came with the car.

3. Every time i turn my steering wheel at very low speed i begin to hear this sound from the steering wheel. its sounds like its running out of power steering fluid, which apparently doesn't have.

i love this car to bits! but I'm beginning to regret buying it.

Is the 2nd gear sound a "crunching" noise as you shift into the gear? If so, it indicates a worn synchronizer. This might be helped somewhat by a slightly heavier transmission fluid, or try shifting into the gear a little more slowly and at a lower RPM. Otherwise, the transmission would need to be removed to replace the synchronizer. This is not an unusual issue in the manual transmissions. If it isn't too bad and isn't creating problems shifting into 2nd gear, you can let it go. If it grinds a lot and the gear is difficult to select, then the synchro should be replaced.

The exhaust smell when the engine is cold is relatively normal. Catalytic converters produce a sulphur smell, especially under rich mixtures when the engine is cold. If the engine is running normally otherwise, this is not an issue.

1. Normal, transmission noise, mine was noticable in the second gear too.

2. Smell is normal.

3. That might be your ABS self check. Always happens right after you start the car and get up to speeds around 5mph.
