I got the M-flash since april and use to get around 16 mpg , now I switched over to V-power gas since I posted and asked if it was a good gas to use ... and I am getting average of 20-22 mpg driving HARD , mostly city miles and some highway.

Nice! What brand and octanes were you using before the switch? I've been getting ~20mpg using Shell 87 octane for 11k miles - mostly 50/50 driving.

Was using sunnoco premium , I think it was 91 or 92 octane, Not sure tho , but I got crappy MPG compared to now.

I heart V power also , all rx-8 owners should use it , its worth the extra money definitely, better MPG , and from what I heard , it burns cleaner also.

V-Power is Shell's premium gas and it's 93 octane (locally anyway), so 87 and 89 octane are not V-Power. FWIW, at my last fillup, V-Power cost 16% more than 87 octane.

Read more about V-Power here: http://www.shellvpower.com/all_about.htm .

If you decide Shell's for you like I did years ago:
"When you buy Shell gasoline with the Shell MasterCard from Citi Cards, you get a five percent rebate."

How many miles do you have on your 8?

How many tanks have you used with V-Power?

Thanks. :D

FWIW, I've noticed the same higher mileage phenomenon with my 2004 WRX.

YMMV....

Interesting post on V-Power. Could it be that this gas cleans the deposits left from burning the motor oil, thus increase milage? That would mean it is dedicated for rotary engines Though the way to use it is once in a while, and in between use other Shell grades (as they claim those also have 3x the additive amount required by law). Also, rotaries seem to not benefit from higher octane fuels and V-Power is available only as Super Premium.

i use V-power 91, the best i've had so far is 175.3 mile ALL HIGHWAY. normal city drive , the best so far is 165 mile. my advage mpg is 11-12.5 city driving, and 16 highway. I had a M flash which my dealer told me. i've bring my car back to dealer for 4 time and have pcm flash, spark plug change, they said the car have no problem. when i pull up to 6K-9K rpm, i'll hear some ringing noice from the engine, dealer said it's normal. I have no idea at all. If anyone is reading this and you live in the Bay area, you think you could come over to SF and check out my car? how many miles could you drive with 1 full tank? do you have noise when you floor it? I don't want to bring it back to dealer again with nothing back.

DAMN 175 miles is your best? i've always gone over 200 miles with a full tank of gas. i usually fill up my tank at 200 miles. I probably got like 7 tanks of v-power stuff is SO GOOD

spiritR, im in the bay area, but your mileage sounds dreadful. i get 240 miles usually before the light comes on. on the freeway ive gone almost 300 miles before filling up (22 mpg). normal mixed use mileage is 18-19 mpg.

I've been using Shell Gas exclusively since owning my RX8. Using 87, 89 and the new V-Power Gas. Dont know about any extra power, but after running through 2 tanks of V Power some of the black stuff "Smoot" seems to be clearing up off the tail pipes.

I'm still skeptical about Shell V-Power. Sounds like a marketing gimmick to me. It's still premium fuel, no?

If anyone has the chemical formula for V-Power, please feel free to post it here for shelley-style analysis.

I've been bouncing around to different gas stations lately getting mid-grade gas which is 89 Octane in NC and have been getting 19.5 - 20.5 mpg with mixed city/highway driving. I may take the plunge and try the V-pwr tomorrow to see if I can get one or two more mpg. Mine has a little over 3k miles on it.

I have 10,000+ miles on my 8, and I get about 17/23 mpg city/highway. I've been using Exxon 93 octane ever since I've had it, and these were my results. I might switch to 89 octane when it starts getting cold.

I get 17 always. I never drive on the highway. It is all stop and go. It kinda sux, but I guess I will try this stuff. I am banking on PCM tuning to get my mileage and HP up.

I think that's about average. You're doing fine in terms of mileage. At least it doesn't reflect that of an H2.

My 8 really like the V gas. I think I am going to stick with it for a while if I can stomache the 2.12 a gallon it cost me.

I have always used Vpower... since the shell station is only a couple miles from my house. I average 17+MPG city 22+ highway. I drive moderately hard, usually stuck in traffic or waiting at a light, so redlines are not too often.

I increased my mpg with v-power, Had been using mobile since the car was born. I managed to get 340miles on a non stop road trip with 3/4 tank of v power. I was amazed!

The gas tank is 15.9 gallons. 3/4 of that is roughly 12 gallons. 340/12= 28.3333 mpg...you sure about this?
